Re: Scott's Stuff
Understandable. Most infantry plastics have pretty midling quality. I guess the only consolation is that you get around 24 per box, or 3 companies for around 30 bucks.
I just picked up the Golden king of Abrakhan. Most beautiful and creative fig they have designed and sculpted.

Re: Scott's Stuff
Aw man! A eBuddy of mine (And a champion painter) bought my Khorne Lord on eBay. I asked him if he wouldn't mind doing a crit on it and man did he give an awesome rundown of what was good, and bad. Everyone who aspires to paint better should be so lucky to get the tips he gave me! And he took some WAAY better pics. check it out! I post the CMON voting link more because you can see the full size image there. This pic show's the difference between someone who knows what they're doing and... me. I don't know that the small version with the crit's on it will do what he had to say any justice at all. Might be too small to read. Anyway...

Pretty awsome of the guy. I can barely read it. It is quite critical. I can't see some of his issues. But, he's the pro, and see's it for reals.
Thought of asking to borrow it back, so you could paint another and compare?

Yeah the dude who did those crit's is a super pro. His Name is Sven Jonnson, and posts as Avelorn on CMON. I'll post a link to some of his work. Also I asked him to be as super critical as he could. He's judged plenty of big time painting comps so I really valued his input.

Re: Scott's Stuff
Did this for a contest over on WAMP. The mini is from a company called Kabuki, which is sponsoring the contest. This was one TOUGH mini to paint! Form all the fiddly little metyal crucifixes to the blades and helmet. The skin was tough too. Aye ya! I wouldn't paint this one again, that's for sure. I did think this would make a cool as hell assassin for 40K though!

Re: Scott's Stuff
She definitely has some noticeable....assets...on both sides......
I actually quite like the helmet and the sword. Both a pretty sweet, and would make for decent conversion bits. Does the model scale well with WHFB/WH40k minis?
As for the paintjob: A++

Re: Scott's Stuff
I painted this for a comp over on WAMP that had a theme of "Blue". I painted this guy using blue as a shade in all the colours, and some of the highlights where I could. Only the face is done differently using red as a shade to dry and focus-ify it. Wierd thing about the pic is I am having trouble with the head on shot. I've tried it a bunch of different ways and switched background a couple times but something is wierd. It destroys the gem effect I went for on the lenses completely plus a bunch of other stuff. It's wierd. It's not SUPER far off real life or anything, but the bottom pic is the most accurate. I don't get it. Anyway...

Re: Scott's Stuff
Yeah it's SUPER old. I think I got it in the half off bin at the den over 5 years ago. Maybe longer? I always liked the greatcoats on 40K figs as it brings out the WWI and II images to me.
That contest over on WAMP doesn't end for a couple weeks or so. It's a wierd kind of contest (no prizes or anything) where all the members vote and give two scores out of ten. One for theme points and one for actual painting. I ALWAYS get hammered in theme. Even the time where the contest was to paint a Harlequin, and I painted an eldar harlequin. I got half marks. The dude who took a crappy blood bowl plastic orc and painted him up to match a rugby team called the Harlequins got MAX score. 'Cause he's a genius for warping themes! Sigh.....

I remember that! When I used to go to that site. That's the same dude who I beat in my only challenge there because he DNF a single fig in around 2 months. Yay winning by the 2 greatest words in the enlish language DE FAULT!

Re: Scott's Stuff
I did this up for a challenge over on WAMP. Thanks Smackman for the AOBR Nob! The pirate head is from a company called MaxMini. It didn't fit for =I=censor=I= so it took a bunch of milliput to smooth out the join. Even then I just sorta left it. The challenge theme was "Choppa" So I painted this dude. I thought about mounting him on a base that looked as if he was stepping off a lotted Valkyrie or something, then I thought that would be expensive and tough. So screw it. Here's the dude.
And close up of the choppa....
Wish me luck!

Re: Scott's Stuff
The wife left the good camera out in the rain. For a couple days. So I painted this up, but I am not sure what the old beast of a camera we have can actually photograph. Good news is, I get a new camera. Bad news is, they won't give it to me for free. Which is bullshit. It's not like I am the one who left it outside!

Re: Scott's Stuff
Crazy, i was just reading some conspiracy theories about the illuminati. Where is this model from? Really nice paintjob. I particularly like the shading on the face, and how you can just see the darkness around the eyes before the face dissapears in shadow.
Re: Scott's Stuff
I'll be honest, that shadin is half me and half crappy camera and hard to light face. I glazed in a LOT of black and brown to do the shadow thing but a little further up, so the bottom of the eye sockets are exposed.
This is the GW Astropath from the 3-pack of advisors. Cool figs, and a decent bargain at 3 mini's for 24 bucks I thought.

Re: Scott's Stuff
I thought it looked very GW, but i was expecting an imperial eagle on the staff... though there is one on the belt i guess. I really do like the eyes though. I can see the shading, just barely, and it makes me want to know what his eyes look like. I would almost expect them to be black empty sockets.. which would be fitting for an astropath i guess. Not sure if thats what you were going for, but its a nice effect.

Yeah this dude has NO EYES!!! Freaky deaky!

Re: Scott's Stuff
Nice! You're right, the camera ain't too good. It plays with the shadows a too much and pronounces things. You should re-shoot this guy with the new one so you can see!

Re: Scott's Stuff
im going to do some nit picking. It kind of bothers me that the tip of his toe extends over the edge of the base. Normally this wouldnt bother me, but the base is a very obvious cross section of some deck plating. If his toe was over the line when the big laser cut it out he would have lost it for sure. Also noticed the seam between the top of the base and the plating, and would consider maybe hitting it with GS and smoothing it down in the future. Just a couple minor ideas.
Re: Scott's Stuff
Fair point about the stance. The base is from Dragon Forge and It's kinda meant for a one foot on the top level I think. Not enough room on the bottom for the whole mini.
