In the Grim Darkness of the Basement, there is only paint...
Hi,
I don't have a project so much as I have a... problem.
I have:
This;
and this;
and this;
and this:
How can I leave them like this?! They're LOOKING at me!
Well the good news is I'm working on a schedule to get them done. 250pts a week. I'll have my Ultramarines done in time for the March tournament! I'll have fully painted armies for the league! And I'll be finished with all of them..... sometime in 2013 or so. Well here are some samples so far. I'm not going golden daemon or anything. I'm color-blind for chrisakes.
I'm going for "Army painter" standard. These still need decals, quik shade and basing.

Land Speeder Typhoon:
Typhoon close-up:
Tactical Squad Sampler:
Veteran Sgt:
Veteran Sgt:
Land Speeder Tornado:
Slightly different angle:

DT: For the Ultrasmurfs its almost 2 full battle companies plus support. I still don't have most of the new stuff (Redeemer, Thunderfire, LS Storm, etc...) Plus almost 50 Terminators/Sternguard/Vanguard and 25 Scouts.
Actually I *LOVE* the actually assembly phase. I just paint for =I=CENSORED=I=. My new "system" (Army Painter Primer, Basecoat mostly in Foundation Paints, Decals and Dip, move along) seems to be going much better. Basically the table shot (with all the blue and steel) is about 12 weeks worth of painting by my schedule.
Canadin: I've noticed 2 things already.
1) 250 pts isn't much, really.
2) It's going a lot faster than I remember. Before my recent stuff the tactical squad was the last thing I painted, and it took an entire week of painting in the evening. In the last week, i touched up all of them, and 5 scouts, and fully painted the 2 Landspeeders and the Rhino.
I also expect to make up some points on certain weeks. In the next two weeks I''ve got a Termie Squad, a Termie Captain and a Dread to do, and I think I may have them done this weekend. If I get them done early, I'm going to start tackling those 100 tactical marines you see in the one picture.

Thats good, I always feel that the game looks better with painted models rather than a table covered in grey

New stuff
I'd intended to update weekly but you can see how that's worked out. A pregnant wife and a 3 year old will do that.
A quick thank you to everyone who has been giving advice on painting/modeling/ playing etc. The last two towns I was in (Niagara Falls, ON and Beaumont/Houston, TX) were nowhere near this friendly and open to new players.
I'd imagine some of you have seen these already from the 1000/1500 pt weeks...
Things I've learned
It's really hard to paint fully assembled mini's
I hate metal models... you end up either with too much glue or you have to pin them, it seems like they never take primer, and as soon as you paint them they chip. Then you get to drop them and watch them break apart....
Why haven't I been painting on the sprue before? SOOOO much easier.
All these (and the previous ones) still need a final check, decals, and dip. Thinking of holding off on basing until the battlefield/army painter stuff comes in.
Razorback- don't ask me for, this is the only Rhino/RB I own with a working rear door.
Predator
Dreadnaught
Terminator Squad
Terminator Sgt
Terminator Captain- if anyone has some suggestions for cleaning up the center icon, I'm all ears...
Captain and Chaplain- extra I worked in...
Tactical Sqd 1
Tactical Squad 2
Tactical Squad 3
Devastator Squad
Scout Squad
Next in line... A Land Raider w/ Forge World doors, Assault Termies and a Termie Chaplain.....

Re: In the Grim Darkness of the Basement, there is only paint...
So..........
Since the weather was nice, I decided to burn thru 3 cans of Army Painter Navy Blue, and get the rest of my Ultramarines primed.
Apologies for the crappy pics.
BTW my hair is now oversprayed blue and I'm sneezing blue snot.
Deathwatch Killteam (Captain/Sternguard and Vanguard)
Counts As Pedro Kantor and Honour Guard
Captain Sicarius and Command Squad
Telion and 1/4 of the 10th Company
Cassius and additional Chaplains
Dreadnaughts
Vulkan counts as..... he's beside himself
Sternguard (to be assembled)
Predator/Land Speeder Typhoon/Tactical Squad (to be assembled)
1st Company Detachment and 6th Company (that is the one that can be fielded as bikes right?)
2nd Company
