Re: Scott's Stuff
So I found this tank on the flames of war website SU102/SU85, looked at their paint job, looked at pictures on the web of an actual SU85 and then looked at SU85's made by other miniatures companies... After all that I have developed a very clear opinion.
Scott your paint job is way better then what flames of war has posted on their website (although it seems like you have a nicer camera then the =I=censor=I= disposable kodak they obviously used to take their pictures so maybe they're model is nicer than it seems), but I still absolutely hate that mini, it looks like =I=censor=I= to me, sorry.
The model definitely looks like the actual SU85, unquestionably if you knew what a SU85 was and saw this mini you would say "Oh neat a SU85", but another model of the SU85 also looks just like it's real world counter part without looking like =I=censor=I=. Toga/Cooperativa makes a 1:72 scale model of this tank that actually looks good, now I think flames of war is 1:100 or smaller? (15mm figs or something) so it's probably that the fig is so small that in real life it would just look like a green tanky blob to me(poor eye sight) but up close in high res it just looks like a model that really lacks detail.
EDIT: I appologize I just looked at some zoomed out pics of the mini's with stuff there for scale reference... So I can understand that this is actually really good.

FOW tourny was a good time. We would have won too if Scott could have rolled higher than a '3' including the re-roll. Maybe before you tossed the dice I should have looked you in the eyes and said "earn this".
Tank looks great. Looking forward to seeing more.

Yeah 15mm ain't huge, but that doesn't mean you have to like them! Feel free to rip into anything I post. At that scale the mini's are cool enough I think, but defo not masterpieces of model making or anything. Some of the sculpts are pretty slick I think, like a lot of the cooler German tanks.

Re: Scott's Stuff
I tried a new way of doing flesh without using red in the mix. I kinda lie how it turned out, but the camera shot all to hell a lot of the work I put into this feller. This is for an Avatars of War comp over on WAMP.

Re: Scott's Stuff
Wow! all I can say.
One thing... In comparison to everything on this fig, the boots are just boots. they seem to lack compared to everything else.
I like the skin way more than the other recent stuff you've been doing.

Re: Scott's Stuff
But do you think Deckard was a skin job?
TY Guys. Ryan, I agree on the boots totally. I am getting stuck! I usually do my black leather to a point where it looks ass nasty 'cause all the highlights and stuff make it look not black at all. So I glaze it back down to try and make it look black. Gotta learn that black leather tech! I usually do black cloth and stuff by adding dwarf flesh into the mix. I like it for robes and things but it looks poor for leather.
I like a lot of red in the skin tone, but I tried this time using none. I do think it looks quite a bit nicer, so I'll practice it for a bit.
Thanks again. Now I am gonna paint a few quick projects. I'm taing part in a "Paint for profit" kinda challenge where you start with 10$ worth of mini's and try to sell your stuff up to 500$. You buy new mini's out of your pot too. Some guy on Dakka ( I think?) started doing it and it looks like fun.

Re: Scott's Stuff
Painted this up all fast and furious style. It's a Chaos Dwarf from Hasslefree I am painting as part of a "Paint for profit" challenge over on wamp. I think some dude on Dakka started soing a thing where he gave himself a small budget to buy and paint a mini. Sold it, and bought another project etc. My goal is to get 500$ cash or so by the time I go to Germany to get drunk at the end of September. So this dude cost me around 6.50$ after postage. I gave myself an initial budget of 10$, so I'll carry over $3.50 onto the next project. I have another bunch of these Chaos dwarfs I can paint up, if this guy sells at all. As for the mini, the robe looks WAY too similar to the chest/back piece of armour and the weathering and paint chips look like ass I think.

Re: Scott's Stuff
Thats a good point about the robe and armor looking similar.. being color blind as I am.. It looked like all armour to me until I looked again. Like you said, the weathering looks a tad odd on this one, but I love the axe and the helmet, they look great and thats tend to what you look at most on mini's such as these.
That fig though, man does it ever look like some early early day fantasy chaos warriors.. hehe. SOunds like a fun challenge.. good luck man!

Painted this guy up quick. Like three hours tops. I am using him for the Paint for Profit challenge on WAMP and I decided that if I went for a generic brown robe onthe dude he'd appeal to potentially more buyers than if I painted him up as a specific nurgle follower or whatever. End result I think it a pretty bland mini. Oh well, let's ee if it sells!

Re: Scott's Stuff
The goblins cool. Nice paint and I like the fig.
I am not a fan of the dwarves. The second one looks like too much brown and doesn't contrast enough with the armour. I don't like the figs. I also don't like Nazi's, Kali worshipping cultists, Commies, and I absolutely HATE snakes.

Re: Scott's Stuff
TY guys. Agree about that dwarf looking crappy Ryan. I didn't really have an idea for it other than I didn't want to paint it up to match any particular Chaos god. In the end it looks SUPER dull. I still like the mini's though. Old school Chaos Dwarves, from the time before hats! Whats that? Spam the forum with some more pics? Okey dokey!
The mini is from a company called Lead Adventures (Or Ratnik... it's a Russian company. In Soviet Russia company names you!). They've got a bunch of cheap post apoc stuff I like. 5 mini's for 20$! The sculpts are pretty rough in some spots though, but still fun to paint.

Very cool fig, but like you mentioned, a little rough around the edges. I think I remember you showing me these dudes awhile back. You still thinking of using them for some post apocalyptic gaming?
Oh and nice paintjob too!

Yeah I think a Savage Worlds type of game would work well for that stuff. Sure I'd like to give it a shot.

Re: Scott's Stuff
It's from Bane Legions/Bane Lords. Some neat stuff. As far as I can tell it's a bunch of the best french sculters getting together to make Warhammer mini's.

Actually I heard a guy named Aragorn Marks jus signed on full time with GW. He's super good, and I look forward to seeing what he does for 40K and fantasy.

Good to see you have picked up a brush again. Great job on such a tiny fig. Black hair looks really good, i always find that hard to do. Skin looks too red for my tastes.
