Re: Scott's Stuff
A mini from Heresy which is a personal victory for me as I based it and started working on it about a year and a half ago. Love Heresy mini's as they're super fun to paint! Nothing really new here other then it's the same old colours I like to use but mostly from ScaleColour instead of my usual preference for Vallejo. I still love Vallejo and think it's got a much stronger pigment in it which is great, the Scale stuff seems a little lighter and very easy to do layer style blending. Which is how I roll. Anyway, there she be. Going on ebay in a little bit. Thanks for taking a look and any crits welcomed!

No critiques except I think he's pretty fantastic.
Is that how you build up the dark areas lile on his knee pads.. ? Just add on more layers of dark?

Re: Scott's Stuff
I try to start from a mid tone and shade the dark areas first. Lots of thin glazes of a dark shade is the plan most of the time. In this case on the knee pads and on the black areas I wound up painting a basecoat on and then essentially shading it almost entirely to it's darkest state. Which is a real waste of time. Real pros can start from a mid tone, simply shade the EXACT areas they want and need darkest and go from there. I'm still and old school layer guy who used to work from pure black up and it's a hard habbit to break!

Re: Scott's Stuff
99% of the time I prefer black base rings because it gives the miniature a display quality. In this case though, for some reason, I think i might have preferred the colour used on the previous robot you did. From the pictures it looked almost black, but not quite. I know that people have been busting your chops over the brown bases for a long time, but hey, there are always exceptions. Just my opinion though, and for the record my bases are always black ringed.

Blood Bowl Orc Lineman
I picked up the new set. Love the new Orc mini's! So I'm gonna try to get this team up and painted. All the mini's are assembled and I picked turquoise as a main colour with a lot of brown tossed in. Here's the first Lineman...
So There's Manny "the Franchise" Uzzum. Get him up front and you can build a whole drive around him baby!

Re: Scott's Stuff
absolutely gorgeous as always Scott.
I love the texture you've added to the armor. Did you ever think of adding some wear and tear to the leather? Its a bit clean and smoothed for such a burly fella

Re: Scott's Stuff
TY, I did try to add some scratching and stains to the brown leather areas and the metals. To be honest I just am not good enough. It also pulled away from the armour areas I felt. I am not good enough currently at eyeballing the proper amount of weathering and even when I felt like it was on the low side for the effect with minimum scratches etc It just looked like total dogshit. The paint chip effect and staining on the armour is not very difficult TBH. Getting a good effect on the leather is something I've studied and attempted but not gotten good at.
You'll notice on my mini's that even though most are on a super earthy or dusty base them boots is SQUEAKY clean!
I even bought a 54mm mini with a large leather apron and some other leather areas to practice a specific technique on but it's just sitting there under an inch of dust.
I won't be painting this team straight through as a project. I'll take a break after a couple and paint a one off. I think I'll add overall weathering and see if I can't get better at it.
Good food for thought and something to add to the list to work on right soon.
TY for the crit!
