Scott's Stuff
I thought I'd start a thread and put up the stuff I paint. Most of it is just random stuff that goes for eBay. This is my Rincewind from the Discworld series...
This is a Napoleon Dwarf lookin' dude From Scibor outta Poland. I was painting him all french like, but I thought I'd do him more 40Kesque so I could maybe sell him easier as an IG or Traitor Commissar or Advisor guy...
Fire away any comments or crits please.

Re: Scott's Stuff
love the colors, good blending. I have noticed though Scott, on a lot of your painted figs, a lot of the finer details are obscured because the fig appears fairly 'shiny'. Are you sealing these with a varnish? The shiny effect erases alot of the shadows on the model, making a lot of the detail run together.

Re: Scott's Stuff
Paz-First I've heard of the shininess factor erasing shadows and details. I guess I'll look into it!

Re: Scott's Stuff
Working the reds lately, eh? I really like the shadowing and blending of the reds on this guy (Nice use of GW Dwarf flesh there big guy!). Skulls look great. And from what I can see of the metals, they look awsome. Nice work!
Speaking of red, did you ever finish that Blood Angels Terminater you started?

Re: Scott's Stuff
Thanks guys.
No Ryan, I abandoned that Terminator as I decided it was a poor model for me to try stuff on. Since I have to paint the dozen or so and they should look the same I shut that one down. This fig was a practice for red. The cloak is shaded with blue to black and the armor is shaded with orkhide shade and some black. I prefer using the green, and I think I'll do the Space Hulk stuff that way. So I am glad I tried this guy out instead.

Re: Scott's Stuff
damn those guys look nice. I think my favorite detail is the skulls on the back of the Khorne warrior. For the other model, i really like how the blue(teal?) turned out. I also dont know how much is the way it is photographed, but the contrast on the spearpoint metal is really well defined.
Re: Scott's Stuff
I like the blue's on the shield and scabbard. It's a nice contrast to the clothing. I think the paint job looks great. To me, and I could be wrong here, the 2 shade of greens of his clothing just seem to blend(?) too much. I don't know, ignore that.
Sorry if I'm way off here. But I know you like to hear criticism.

Dude! those are amazing! I wanna see your 40k stuff >=D
That Dwarf is my favorite by far. the blending on the shield is just seamless very nice work. maybe I should bring my step-dad with me to a paint day you could show him some tricks, he wants to paint a new Wolf Lord since his old old Leman Russ model doesn't really fit the bill and Ragnar Blackmane is missing. ^_^;;

Nah, you're not off. I have been experimenting with using different base colours but using the saem shading and highlighing colours on parts of mini's. My idea for "Low" fantsy types of mini's is that I didn't neccessarily want them popping all over with colours like most warhammer stuff. However, it's a good crit and I've been getting a lot of it. My theory was thta I can paint most of the mini in kind of blasse style colours, what I would think of as real clothing, and then just add in a piece or two of fantasy style colour like on the shield and scabbard. I don't want to abandon totally that train of thought but I am planning on eBaying most of my stuff so I gotta listen to what people have to say about what they see. So thanks.

Re: Scott's Stuff
honestly I think the clothing is an opinion thing, I can see ryan's point in the two upper pictures but the lighting in the picture with him and the khorne lord makes his cloths look awesome, very realistic and I really like the difference between the two colors, very subtle and realistic.

Must be that new Chaos Dwarf anti-slayer you were telling me about. Very cool. Nice paint job. I don't really know what's going on with the eye holes, how they bulge out of the helmet. I really like the yellow work on the severed head. Looks very dead and jaundiced. Another awsome piece.

Re: Scott's Stuff
I have to ask, how long have you been painting scott? because those are golden demon level models D= I'm jealous of your talent lol

Re: Scott's Stuff
Thanks, but they're still not on par with Golden Demon winners. I've been painting army stuff fro a long time, 20 years give or take. I only really started taking paitning seriously in the last couple years. It's been a fun struggle to improve. There's tons of good people out in internet-ville who've been really great at helping out. Thanks for the compliment!

Cool fig and another awsome paint job. I cant see his eyes. Just the ange of the photo? Nice gold metal work. I can never get gold to do what I want.

Re: Scott's Stuff
I can see the right eye in the first photo, barely. It looks suitably grumpy. Might be you monitor Ryan, there is a huge amount of variation between displays.
Re: Scott's Stuff
The eyes are just wicked sunk in. They're in a lot of shadow. It's fine to see them IRL, but it was tough getting a pic. My pics are not very great of my stuff.

I can see the eyes, but that's because my screen is wicked bright, if I look at it from any other angle though instead of straight ahead then I can't.ScottRadom wrote:The eyes are just wicked sunk in. Where are the WOTR dwarves Scott? But for serious, good stuff, your control of muted tones is commendable.

Aw man, I tried. I cleaned up and got about half a dozen ready to paint. I glue my mini's to big wooden blocks for painting and I did that. I even started one dude. Just... can't... do... it. Every mini I paint I see tons of mistakes, but I try to make the good outweigh the bad. Painting fast and quick for the table means that I see almost all mistake and not much good stuff at all. So then I thought I'll just slow down and take my time. I can have an army painted by 2018 for sure. But the plastic dwarves are just not that great. I should mount up some of the character models from the range. I really like them!
And thanks for the compliment. Much appreciated.
