Re: Scott's Stuff
I was puzzling over how you did your ork flesh. Here's my guess.
Basecoat of some kind of dark green.
Highlight of a lighter green.
Dark Brown Wash in the recesses?
Highlight of a lighter green?
Some yellow-ish highlights?
With the Fighta-Bomba I was going to do the grot your style, but then I thought, meh, he's a grot, and my flesh looks pretty decent (not anywhere near as good, but decent).
The curiosity is killing me though :-)

Re: Scott's Stuff
I use Vallejo Russian Green as a base. I shade with really thinned scorched brown, Vallejo Black Red, and thinned badab black GW wash. I highlight by adding Vallejo Pale olive to the base coat and finish by using lemon ice in the mix and then by itself. One consistent crit I get about my ork flesh is that there is not enough contrast so I think I need to generally apply some more highlights in the process. I shade right to black so the highloighting must be where I am not gettin' it done I guess.

Re: Scott's Stuff
Wanted to paint up something Nurgley and I found a box of blood bowl dudes. Nurgles Rotters by Mr. Steve Buddle. Super fun to paint, the scuplts are a great mix of fun details with room enough to let your brush do some work. Nothing revolutionary here brush wise but I sure liked painting this guy. Probably 5hrs start to finish, a great way to spend a sunday afternoon. I immediately started cleaning up the rest or the box so I can add this ongoing project to my long list of stuff to work on.
edit I just realized I didn't paint the armor thingy on his right hand. Gah!

Re: Scott's Stuff
the colors are nice, but i think the way he's modeled and the way you painted him don't match. to me, looking at the strong square jawline, the wider lips, and the flattish wide nose, he seems like the modeler intended him to be painted in an african skin tone. i would've done him like that with white instead of the green fabric, made the fur more ruddy like its a red fox's pelt, and given him reddish pants. i coudln't photoshop the skin to quite what i had in mind, but i think something like this might look better for how it's modeled:
just my suggestion. the face just doesnt look like he should be "white".

Re: Scott's Stuff
That would be an interesting take on the mini! I don't see the mini as being particularily un-white but I do think the different take on the skin would be interesting for sure. Defo would've caught some eyes with that skin tone in the comp!

Re: Scott's Stuff
What model is this? His face looks very arnold/conan ish. It does have a feel of a early geting established conan based on the equipment. Especially the helmet style, fur, and the broadsword.

Re: Scott's Stuff
I really want to get that mini now.
I like the paint job and the colours seem fine to.me. He doesnt look african to me personally.. Although with my colour aversion problems his pants do.look pretty close in colour to his skin.
The pants could be light brown or green for all i know though.
Does the helmet seem.a bit brighter gold than youve typically been doing or is it just me?

Re: Scott's Stuff
The gold might have come out a touch brighter than usual. I worked the highlight more than I usually do.
Robyn have you ever checked out Red Box Games before? There really cool mini's but they're no good for GW stand in's as the scale is more of a true 28mm then the heroic 28+ of the GW stuff. I think Darren can order in RBG stuff but couldn't say for sure. The company is a one man show and most of his range is "offline" right now as he tools everything over to a plastic range. He's got a couple kickstarters going right now. I think he does the best goblins in the business but they're REALLY tiny.
If you're interested in RBG stuff lemme know. I have almost his entire range except for the elves.

First thing I thought of when I saw this dude was that it was dripping with the Conan vibe. Any chance you could add a button to it's base to play an audio clip of the lamentations of their women?

LOOK AT THE TITS ON THIS CHICK!
I'm painting up a 5 man crew for Malifaux as part of a challenge over on WAMP. There all kinda greasy spic looking weird west mini's. I like Malifaux mini's for the most part, and these I do enjoy. I am gonna have to try very hard to keep focus on painting 5 mini's as part of an "army". I have to be finished by the end of March.

Re: Scott's Stuff
Also I painted up one of these dudes. It's for a game called Dystopian Legions. I have yet to play any of the systems for this genre from Spartan games but I like the mini's a ton. They have some smaller scale stuff and this is their new 30mm-ish range. I really like the mini's but better yet I like the pricing Spartan uses for their stuff. I bought a boxed set for the Prussian and for $60 at the den I got 14 mini's (Two larger ones too!), a rulebook, colour coded dice, a clear range ruler thingy, the cards needed for the game, and something else I am forgetting. A super deal! The casting was a touch rough on some fo the mini's I assembled. Not finecast bad but certainly lesser than my experience with most metal mini's including GW. I can easily forgive it due to the price point though. It sure wasn't enough to keep me from buying more! Here's my first "test mini". How many of those have we all painted over the years I wonder. Painted up pretty quick. I am going for a WWI style no mans land basing scheme.

Re: Scott's Stuff
Some nice work again Scott. Your crew came out great. I like your use of the blue on the female fig it really defines her as the centre piece of your crew and the hair came out great.
Have you thought about maybe trying some water effects on the bases for your WW1 style guy? Some sloppy and muddy bases might look real good with those figs.
