Re: Scott's Stuff
Thanks Dana, I had thought of doing some water effects on the base but then I thought it would be more work, and then I thought I'd have to weather up the mini's and THEN I thought screw it. It would look better your way I think. Maybe I'll try doing up a mini with the sloppy mud look and see if it works OK. It's a good idea!
I had the week off work and painted up this Tankbusta mini. I wanted to try using purple to shade the flesh for a change as I usually use red and brown. I think I'll try it again on a mini with more skin showing to see if I like it or not.
And a CMON link for those so inclined...

Nice looking fig. I like the purple shading on this guy more than what you've done with some of your previous orks.

Re: Scott's Stuff
The mini looks great Scott.
The only thing I'd say is that its a little bit dried up? I always invision plauge marines to be wet and drippy perhaps throw a touch of yellow/pus at the shoulderpad insignia's?
None of my stuff looks half as good as this, so take that for what you will.

Great stuff man. Love the subtle weathering.
Only criticism would be the grey sided base.
With such a range of lighter valued tones, I'd go with a flat black outer base ring. Might help the marine pop a bit more.

Fair points, The shiny puss stuff is a good point. I always finish my dudes off with a couple layers of dullcote, I'll see about trying some stuff on the next one.
The black ringed base might be a good idea too. I just got hooked on using the black brown way back when and have stuck with it. Black might pop it up some more. I'll give it a shot!

Re: Scott's Stuff
Plasma gunner. Next one I'll try some wet style effects with some washes and glazes after the dullcote goes on. This will be a tough step for me, dunno why. Something psychological about blasting it with the spray then being officially done with a mini. Also pigment on the next one. I decided against the black ring as the brown fits in with the existing demons done for fantasy and I kinda dig on the brown.
What I worked on most with this was adding some different colours. It doesn't look night and day from the the previous effort but I used a bit more bright purple and worked with some Vallejo smoke on the green brown armour patches. Next one will have a little more colour as well. I am mostly pleased with the fleshy diseased areas, will push more of that into upcoming mini's.
Thanks for comments so far and I promise I WILL go for some wet stuff on the next one... it's just hard, y'know?

Re: Scott's Stuff
the soft red highlight on the backpack does break up the color monotony nicely though. Good stuff as usual.

Re: Scott's Stuff
TY guys. This backpack is from MaxMini I think. Gothic backpacks or something? I ordered a bunch of simple looking ones from Anvil industries which I'll use as well. I just really, really dislike the weird Chaos ones. The loyalist SM armour looks all functional, I don't get why when you turn evil you have to put spikes and fins on shit. The Chaos backpacks don't even really look functional. Just goofy.

Re: Scott's Stuff
I picked up a little box of assorted Rivet Wars characters. It's kind of an odd looking game from Cool Mini but I always wondered how the mini's would paint up. Kind of fun as a break but I can't imagine playing this game as your main system, or investing the time and effort to paint up an army for that game. It's a board game with mini's as opposed to a pure miniature game. Anyways, the plastic is a touch bendy, defo a gaming mini and not geared for the pure painted. But the box was 20 bucks CDN, it sated my curiosity and I'll see how it goes on eBay. It was a nice break from doing Nurgle stuff, I wanted to make sure I could still do blends and not just slopping around with dirt and shit like I feel I'm doing on nurgley stuff. So here is the guy. I'm curious to see if there is an ebay market 'cause I might paint up another of the dudes as a break if it sells okay. Meaning 15 or 20 'Merican bucks.

Re: Scott's Stuff
Not much cc to give, fantastic paintjob!
Is the model resin or metal? Theres a bit of a miscast on the arms, but i imagine theres not a whole lot one can do at this scale.
The hat makes it tho.

Metal, the casts are not fantastic. There is a TON of flash especially on the inside of the left arm that I just didn't bother even trying to remove. Juts paint that shit black and move on.
TY!

Re: Scott's Stuff
Masterful as always. My only crit is that its hard to tell what the red-brown bit is on the base. It looks sort of like an alien carapace, but without context it could also be some terracotta roofing tiles. I like how the lens work pops.
