21 Cultists/Zombies now fully built AND based! I have to say, Lichen is a strong contender for becoming my new favorite basing material, and it has Cork Board to contend with.

I'm not quite sure if my Oblits have enough guns on them just yet. Thoughts?

FINALLY got a proper air brush set up going with a gravity feed, portable compressor, and halfways proper lighting. I think Cthulhu is pleased with the initial results.

His package is so tiny..
Can you paint your skinks after the lichen is on?
Neat theme for the army.. not sure about the.oblits though now. They look a little.plain with the guns just poking out. Hard to justify the Fleshmetal, Daemon rule and powerfist right now. Not sure what you can do to fix that up though.

Re: Ia! Ia! Cthulhu fhtagn!
The skinks have been exclusively painted with the lichen already on. I'm somewhat saddened by how much the green wash muted and pulled together the base coat and back scale detailing, making it really hard to see that something had been done there.
On the topic of Oblits, though, the original idea was to have a floating mass of guns, ala Jellyfish. It may well be the case with them, as it was with the daemon prince, that they won't look quite right until painted. I'm not as worried about the Power Fist, as even on the official GW kit it's just fists full of guns.
Oh, an do mind, scale wise, said package is about the size of a Termie helmet.

Even a 747 looks small when it's landing in the grand canyon, tom.

Save for a base, I think this guy is pretty much done for the moment. Also pictured is the Helbrute that got primed and based today. Very much enjoying the gravity feed air brush.

I like the effect on the wings.
Daemon Princes kick ass, the trick is to try and keep them affordable.

On the topic of packages and over compensation, Blue Table Painting got back to me on my Slaaneshi Daemon Prince today. I think the free hand on the dorsal fin seems a bit cheesy to me, but I love how they carried out the aged brass for me.

Nurgle prince - love it, great to see it painted
Slaanesh prince - also very nice. I like the colours. Mind if I ask what those guys charged for painting and what shipping was? Just curious is all.
Obits - more guns! Always more guns, at lest twice as many!

I feel like a bit of an idiot now for not bothering to check some of GW's other lines of models. Apparently they had the kit I needed for my Kraken Drake all along in their LotR line with the Watcher in the Water, and it even comes on the oval base!

My Watcher in the Water has finally shown up now, and Citadel Finecast strikes again! The big resin blocks that are it's body don't line up, and with how much resin it is, I'm going to have a right fun time using hot water to try to line everything back up.

Bummer. I have never had a citidel finecast model turn out "perfect". The best so far is my Librarian with minor defecting. I really am not a fan of it. Give me regular plastic or pewter any day.

I've been okay with the Thousdand Sons upgrade kit (I imagine the other upgrade kits are fine too).
Whole models have been a pain. The striking scorpions were so bad, I *nearly* called GW.
It's such a horrible medium to work with. Their plastic kits are so fantastic though, it's really weird. I hope that they'll eventually switch everything to plastic, like the new Farseer model.

I agree. I just don't understand why they would create all this grief with their customer base by not only using an inferior material compared to their plastic kits, while charging us more than the old pewter models. It just makes no sense to me.
I should have called GW about my Tau commnader upgrade pack. Both weapons turned out fine, but both Heads are unusable. The whole front lens section is completely miscast on both of them. The only saving grace is that I bought it with the $15 dollar gift certificate from the last team tourney.

Re: Ia! Ia! Cthulhu fhtagn!
I found that my Tech Marine kit was alright, though I haven't assembled any of the servitors yet. Only issue I noted on that kit was that his scope hangs slightly to the left.
*Snare drum falls down a cliff*
In response to the post made while typing this one: if they are indeed entirely miscast, why not call it in? The more complaints they get about this medium, the more likely they are to do something about it in the long run.

Meh, I don't really need them. I did buy that pact just for the weapons in it. Especially since they made the new boss Commander. They are going to get turned into basing materials for my other armies

In better news, I finally managed to track down some proper diver helmet heads for my havocs!
They come in packs of 10, so one order would cover me for two minimum sized squads, or a few bullet sponges.

Always include bullet sponges! Those are some definitely neat looking diver helmets.

Re: Ia! Ia! Cthulhu fhtagn!
5 man Havoc squad has been built. I might convert over my two remaining AoRB marines into bolter buddies/bullet sponges for the squad.
Those backpack feeds are a bit of a pain to work with, as a result, two of the autocannons ended up getting box clips. I think the end cost on this squad currently sits at 145, for base 5 man squad, 4 auto cannons, MoN, Vets, and a Combi-Melta.

Re: Ia! Ia! Cthulhu fhtagn!
Got some work done on my Slaaneshi bikes and lord on a steed today. While the lord is mostly assembled and waiting painting before the final glue goes in, I was able to fully assemble a basic bullet sponge biker for the MoS squad. I figure the Nurgle bikers can do the Dr. Strange Love thing, while the Slaanseshi ones cruise around on their turbo-powered sea horses.
Incidentally, the Warp Talons box is a great kit. Just had to take a saw to some bits to make them viable.

Thumbs up on that last conversion Tom. The change since you're early stuff is quite startling. Good Job.

I find that working with Chaos has helped, as their lack of standardization and uniformity gives you a lot of wiggle room to work with and generally encourages and rewards experimentation. That, and some of the conversions are just straight up fun to do.

Yup. if i didn't love converting models, i would have dropped chaos long ago. the freedom to do whatever you want with your models is great.
