Edit: Drilling holes would be loud, and people were heading to bed.

Shell is now formed and sanded, and any remaining divots and such can be chalked up to battle damage and age. Next up will be shell segment edging and vents via Green Stuff.
Also, the Helbrute now standing "right side up". With gargoyles.

Shell ridges have begun. I will have to wait for this batch to cure before applying anything else, as my fingers are running out of places they can go that won't cast finger prints into the model.

As I wait for (yet more) Green Stuff to set and cure, I decided to get some more work done on my Slaaneshi Daemon Prince. I think I have everything kicking around to make a Tzenchi DP, but then I'd have to keep making DP's until I have all 5 covered (core 4 + undivided/malal).
Once I find some bone swords I'll have this guy up at the magic number of 6 arms.

The creation process for this prince seems to be going a lot smoother than the Mauler Fiend. Then again, far less scratch building has been involved so far.
Tomorrow should have a bunch more curing done on both of these guys, so I'll be able to work on the iconography on the Fiend and the dorsal fin on the prince then. This prince is going to be a real "joy" to paint.

Re: Ia! Ia! Cthulhu fhtagn!
Having seen that Forge World has yet again made minis with both diorama and table top basing gave me inspiriation as how to address me wanting Typhus to have an awesome glowing base without becoming overly tall. The base need not glow all the time, allowing me to have it all awesome and lit up when showing it off, but regular table top sized when actually fielding him.
The Fantasy Mega Battle this weekend also allowed me to pick up the bits I needed to finish building my Flying Dutchmen Noise Marines, cursed for the past forty thousand years to wander the realms of both man and daemon, subjecting all to their doom call. I really like how well the skeleton horn helps tie into this, as though in his many years of undeath have lead to him simply loosing a gauntlet along the way.
I also have my Noise Champion built now, sporting both the squad's icon and the Doom Siren.
With all these new bits, I'll have to go in and give everything a quick re-prime, and then it's waiting on weather again to base coat with the air brush.

Re: Ia! Ia! Cthulhu fhtagn!
I had been drawing much inspiration from this, but the one you provided as example actually have the rhinos and such done up. I'm guessing a lot of that is just building up with some plasticard and using the las gun ports from the chimera for the windowing.
And then there's this dude.
The biggest thing I want to talk away from this, though, is where the hell did this guy find these helmets!?
I've been looking rather exhaustively for those helmets for my Havoks, to no avail.
I also love how they used part of the Coteaz blister to make a two headed parrot.
Well, it seems I need to start popping some front hatches off of rhinos.

Upon closer inspection of my Chimera kit, I no longer think that those view ports are from that kit. Anyone know where they would be from?
Edit: figured it out, they're the driver view port shielding plates, from the rhino kit of all things.

Back to things I am actually working on, I managed to get a bunch done on my Flying Dutchmen Noise Marines today. I do think they came out rather nice and ghostly. I like how the dry brushing of Necron Compound and Copper just barely keeps shining through the wash. Helps to give a "not quite there" vibe.
These guys were primed grey, given dry brushings of Necron Compound, Copper, and Ubshabti Bone, then a wash of Green Shade. The capes then got a heavy dry brushing of Moot Green, and the fur got a second pass of Bone before re-washing those sections.

I would imagine they look awesome in person Tom. Right now the flash on you camera is washing all the colors out

i think that might be the intended effect.

I just ment that to me it doesn't look like there is much of anything since all the layering and washing is getting overwritten by the flash on his camera.

Without the flash not too much is shown off in the pictures, either, though the skeletal arm shows off better. Over all, only the shields and capes have any kind of "pop" to them, as everything else is very subdued for the ethereal effect.
Incidentally, I found that grey capes with bone fur look awesome on their own.

With my Noise Marines all nice and fieldable, time to switch gears to another C:CSM required model: the Chaos Spawn! 1:18 chance to have a dude explode into one of these any time they kill an enemy character, after all.
I opted to use the were-shark model from the Reaper line that the Den carries. Yes, that's a thing, and Darren still has at least another two down there. I'm not done with him yet, but I REALLY like how the shard of deck he is standing on turned out.

Converting a Pain Engine into a Forge Fiend. Couldn't help but find the Ectoplasma cannon option hilarious with how they are as large as the torso.

Also, less silly looking, converting some Venom Cannons to use for Hades Autocannons.

Re: Ia! Ia! Cthulhu fhtagn!
Chaos Spawn is pretty well done at this point. I have to say, I really enjoy using soft brushes for broad and heavy dry brushing.
With my Forge Fiend, I have encountered a curious side effect to this particular kit bash: he's going to have a stance wider than his base. Even flipping the base around 90 degrees would still have his talons digging into the table. This is going to either require some creative basing, or I'm going to have to run him akin to my Triarch Stalker.

Re: Ia! Ia! Cthulhu fhtagn!
It seems that Khorne and Tzeentch felt left out, and thus Daemon Princes for them have now entered my queue. For Tzeentch, I'm going to use a Nightbringer C'tan as a base and go all Poseidon on him, lunging out of the mouth of a nine eyed shark (man my Green Stuff budget is going to start hurting). For Khorne I've already started work on building something that looks like the love child of Shadow of the Colossus and the Leviathan from Disney's Atlantis. Of all things, it was inspired by the spare prow head that Mark gave me with those Dark Elves I bought from him. I've used some Instant Mold and Grey Stuff to replicate it so I can have some big horns and stone golem eyes for the bugger.
Pictures to come soon!

Free hand sculpting is harder than I remembered it. Then again, I suppose clay is a bit more forgiving than Grey Stuff. I might have to look into possible kit bash bodies rather than a pure sculpt.

Re: Ia! Ia! Cthulhu fhtagn!
I need to stop getting distracted by all the shiny new things I can do with this army and get back to getting it playable. To that end, I based a number of my Plague Marines today and started in earnest on painting up Typhus as The Reef That Walks. Still much to be done with him, including flocking, but I think this shows off the general dirrection I'm taking him in. His destroyer hive and various growths make him an ideal model to use as a mobile, force scythe wielding coral reef.

Also trying a slow build up on the Plague Marines, though it doesn't seem to show up on the camera worth a darn. Started by priming with a Satin Green spray paint, then dry brushing on a layer of Hawk Turquoise, and then a 50/50 blend of Hawk Turquoise and Warpstone Glow was intermittently stippled across them.
For the shields, used a thin wash of the above mentioned blend, then set about on the glowing chaos star. The star and the area immediately around it was painted with Warpstone Glow, then just the star was painted with a blend 66/33 blend of Warpstone Glow and Moot Green. Finally, the rivets and center spike were painted with Moot Green (which the camera also elected to not show).
On the left is my original proof of concept, which I'm hoping to surpass with his squad mates.

Re: Ia! Ia! Cthulhu fhtagn!
Blitzed through mostly assembling 21 cultist tonight (16 of them will be getting their CCW arms glued on in the morning before work). I have to say, pinning cultist arms is a bit of a tedious task.
Cultist Champion is ready for some sand and primer, though.
I think to really sell the fish-men angle when I paint them, I am just going to paint the whole eye black, and then give just the eye a coat of clear nail polish to get that glistening and wet thing going.
