1750 - Standard Tournament - December 14th
Welcome to the 1750 Standard Tournament. This tournament will be held December 14th. Entry fees are $15 pre-paid or $20 at the door the day of the tournament. This fee goes directly towards prize support.
Link to Sign-up Sheet. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/12jo26cUcHfB8vcRYTbiPGVQ77x731VCIAcqTpGZsHN0/viewform
I was just informed there will also be a sign up sheet shortly at the Den. Remember following order for who gets to play if we get more than 16 sign ups - physically signed up and paid > physically signed up > digitally signed up > hobo who wants to play 40k (signing up the day of) > My buy list.
I will be running this tournament in the BAO format (slightly modified). Linky to their rules. http://www.frontlinegaming.org/community/bao-tournament-format/
There will be some minor modification to their rules. I will try to keep such modifications to a minimum and spell them out as clearly as possible in this thread.
First up though are the rounds times.
10:00 AM to 12:30 PM - Round 1
12:30 PM to 12:45 PM - Snack
12:45 PM to 3:15 PM - Round 2
3:15 PM to 5:45 PM - Round 3
5:45 Prize Distribution
I realize these times are a bit tight. However I didn't want to drastically change the amount of time that Darren would have to be open.
So the only modification of the missions is that for times sake we will obviously only have three rounds. Expect to play each pairing of missions once (crusade/emperors will; relic/big guns; purge the alien/scouring). Also expect to play each deployment once (I will again be keeping the missions tied to their deployment styles).
Prizes: Best Overall 30%; Best General 20%; Best Painted 20%; Favorite Painted 20%; Favorite Opponent 10% - I will be judging the first three. The last two will be by the players.
Scoring:The overall breakdown of points will be: 60 points from battles (20 possible per game, 3 games); 30 points from painting (rubric tbd); 10 points from sportsmanship (combination of games/turning list in/signing up).
The battle points will be as follows. 10 points for a win, 5 for a tie and 2 for a loss. In addition you gain points from any mission objectives you win. Since it is the BAO format this means that if you win the primary, lose the secondary and score first blood (but not slay the warlord or linebreaker) you will earn an additional 5 points (primary is worth 4, plus one for first blood) in addition to any win/tie/loss points. There will be scoring sheets at each table to facilitate with scoring at the end of the game.
Painting will be judged during the event and during the 15 minute snack break.
Sportsmanship with be handled with the standard BAO format of thumbs up and thumbs down for a total of 6 points (2 per thumbs up) and then 2 points for submitting your list early and 2 points for signing up early. Those are there to help make sure I don't have to do any work the day of. I will be spending a lot of time going over lists prior to the event and the less I have to do the day of the better.
- A note on submitting lists early. To score the full two points for submitting your list early please PM me a copy of the list at least 4 days before the event. If you know earlier than that awesome, but please don't spam my inbox if you think you are going to change your mind every twelve minutes. 2 days before the event I will be posting a copy of everyone's list in the army list sub-forum. The list you submitted to me must be the final list you use at the event. If you want you can change it between that time you can change it, but you will lose those two points and other players are allowed to heckle you at the event.
- A secondary note on "Best Painted". In keeping with the BAO format I did manage to track down a rubric published by the gentlemen at Frontline Gaming. A link to their guidelines. http://www.frontlinegaming.org/painting-rubric-for-40k-events/ . I will be posting how this works into the 30 points for painting this week.
Here is the breakdown of how I will be judging the painting portion of the event.
There will be four general blocks - Unprimed - 0 - Not eligilbe for painting prize support; Primed - 10 - not eligible for painting prize support; 3 color minimum - 15; Beyond 3 color minimum - 15 + painting rubric. This will help me save a little bit of time so the majority of armies that are not seriously in the running for best painted can simply be checked off into one of the first 3 categories and I can concentrate on judging the remainder as fairly as possible on the rubric. The rubric will have a couple of minor changes just so it adds up correctly to 30/30 and there will be a total of 5 bonus points for having fully done objective markers. The rubric will be as follows:
Highlighting - 2 layers +1
- 3(or more) layers +1
- blended highlights +1
Object Source Lighting +1
Weathering +1
Freehand - basic +1/advanced +2
Theme +1 (above the normal color co-ordinated list, player created something wholly unique)
Basing +1
Coverstions - basic +1/advanced +2
green stuff +1
display board - basic +1/advanced +2
cool factor +1
Objectives +3 for having 3/ +5 for having 5 (three 25mm and two 40mm)
Before Objectives the max should be 30/30 (15 for 3 colors + all of the rubric advanced level points) - If any of that is unclear or you need clarification on any part please let me know.
- A final note for now pertaining to signing up early. One point will be awarded for signing up digitally. Two points will be for signing up physically and paying early. In the case that we have more than 16 sign up this is the order I will be using: signed up physically and paid > physically signed up > digitally signed up > hobo who wants to play 40k > my buy list.
Link to Sign-up Sheet. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/12jo26cUcHfB8vcRYTbiPGVQ77x731VCIAcqTpGZsHN0/viewform

Re: 1750 - Standard Tournament - December 14th
Hey guys,
So here is what I am hearing so far. The 14th looks like it is going to work?
There will be a sportsmanship and painting score and it will contribute to the scoring for best overall. I will probably keep with the Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down of the BAO format (they give a list of things you are allowed for a thumbs down and be prepared to talk to me/anyone helping me if that occurs). For painting I will have to adopt a scoring mechanism since BAO only requires 3 color minimum. While I would prefer everyone to have 3 colors I will not require it, but I would not expect to win best overall without at least that.
Edit: linky to the BAO format

Re: 1750 - Standard Tournament - December 14th
So I was flipping through stuff before leaving work and bumped into this rather interesting article on 3++. What would people think about pre-submitting lists? Perhaps not making the public until right before the event, but at least submitting them to me early to point check them.
I think I am for it. If lists get in to me 2-3 days early then I have ample time to check them over. You get a bonus point or some for making the pre-submit deadline (this way you don't have to pre-submit if you don't want to). Thoughts? Comments? Outhouses in the mountains that leave you mentally scarred?

I'd be ok with it if it was mandatory and you posted them all at the same time after you had given them the ok.

To be honest with how far away it was I didn't consider it yet
I'll talk with Beau over the next couple of days about how to make an online sign up sheet. It should be up by Sunday at the latest.

It would be all you, man. It would be exactly the same as taking allies in a regular match.
