Victory for Adam! It was a really fun game though.
 
I should know better then to plop down an army I have no experience with though.. it started out pretty good though I think. My problems starting popping up early though.
 
Things I forgot like a dorkus:
 
- Put down my portalglyph on turn 2, forgot to roll at the end of the movement phase
- My daemon prince charged Adams daemon prince.. both Khorne. Adam let me go first, so I used his fleshbane ability and did two wounds, then I got smashed back. A little bit of trickery perhaps.. BUT, I should of known better. I was thinking about avoiding monstrous creatues with daemon princes yesterday, then forgot..  this swung things around pretty good.. in combination with
 
..   the Warpstorm table. Oh, why doth you hate me old warpstorm table. I got -1 invul saves two turns in a row. But the big kicker were the psychic powers. I had two units of 12 horrors and a levl 3 herald with prescience deep strike in on turn 2. Adams Bloodthirster was on the ground. I cast misfortune on him, and started to salivate with excitement. First unit of horros..   12 for psychic test..fail. Herald..  psychic test..  12.. fail. The bloodthirster had 2 wounds on him and was sitting in front of my face ! With misfortune ! 5d6 str 6 shots with rerolls, and rerolling good saves.. alas, it was not to be.
 
Argh. next unit of horrors..   psychic test.. 2. At least they were still to shoot a different unit, I was out of range of the thirster though.
 
I tried to put up a fight after that by picking on some troops but his thirster and daemon prince were able to mop up the horrors pretty easily. Anyway, thanks for listening. My talking about it I can get over my goofy mistakes easier and hopefully not do it again Smile  Mark, how come you pass your psychic tests?
 
My list was as follows.. I thought it was pretty solid for an comers list..   not counting lists with lots of insta death stuff  :)Opinions?

Volume. I haven't got two twelves in a row yet.

I'd say about 1/4 either fail a psychic test or get denied. So when I've got 3 or 4 dudes going at S6 from one unit, it generally means they're getting some number of shots off.

Chaos Guard win over Chaos Daemons.

Game went to top of 3. I am now retiring my Imperial Guard. Guard Commander Awesome has conquered over Nurgle Spawn, Typhus & Co, Khornate Daemon-Zilla, Loads of Obliterators, Tzeentch caster spam, and a number of other armies. All from atop his Bastion, "Fort Awesome".

It was kind of a rough game, Mark loaded up a big chunk of his army into Arhiman, Kairos, and the giant Horror Blob with 3 Heralds attached. I had my footy guard artillery company with Daemon Allies for Shock Troops.

T1 Adam - Seize the Initiative. Blow up a bunch of guys with artillery, move up Bloodthirster to behind a tower. Wound up Kairos 3 times, No first Blood.


T1 Mark - Cast up a load of powers, Oblitz lascannon the bastion killing 2 guardsmen, Kairos flies up behind thirsty and casts him up a bunch adding up to 2 wounds in the end. Horror Blob casts up a Huge volume of S6 Shots, with prescience, gets about 7 wounds, but I pass all 7 armor saves. They also used the grimoire and powers to go to a 2++ save (whit MoTzeentch letting them re-roll 1's). Screamers run up and turbo boost getting ready for T2 charge.


T2 Adam - Reserves: Vendetta and Marbo stay out, Daemon Prince and Bloodletters come in, deepstrike near Oblitz+arhiman. Thirsty takes a hard right to intercept the Screamers, no need assaulting the changeling when he will have a 2++ re-rollable save in addition to thirsty's base WS-S-T-I-A stats. Manticore shot deviates far and tags my daemon prince, wounds, and fails save causing instant death Sad. Thirsty charges into screamers and kills a bunch.


T2 Mark - Cast up a load of buffs, fail test to enfeeble Thirsty. Horrors Deepstrike in front of the Bastion. Oblitz, Arhiman, and Horror blob ANNIHILATE my bloodletters, Kairos flies right up to my vets and casts flickering fire for 3 points, Vets roll their Deny the Witch roll and sit there unscathed. Thirsty finished the screamers, and Kairos regens a wound back up to 3.


T3 Adam - Fail reserves again. Order FRFSRF from the 20 man guard blob into the deepstriking horros, finishing the unit along with the grenade launchers and Heavy Bolter in tower. Order Bring it Down! 2/3 success. Vets unload plasma rapid fire into Kairos, Warlord Squad with Snipers, and Command squad with meltas. Kairos is detroyed, Thirsty is in position to charge Oblitz and Arhiman, we call it a game.

I wonder how much would have changed if you had not seized Adam. I am starting to think it is arguably the single most important die roll in a game. the handful of times I have seized the whole game flips basically. Especially with pre-measuring now.

I'd also like to point out that Fort Awesome did suffer a minor setback last playoffs from some sneaky Tau Razz. Would like to see how my 1750 list stands up against it now.

How did a prescienced Horror blob only do 7 wounds to a Bloodthirster?!?  Between seizing the initiative, a clutch deny the witch and passing 100% of the Bloodthirster's armour saves it looks like the dice were getting back at Mark for letting him jack two T8 MC's with Ahriman...

I think he generated something like 30 shots, first roll he got 2 hits (Snap Fire vs FMC), 2nd roll I think he got another 9. Of those 11, 7 Rolled 4+ to wound, then I passed 7 saves 3+

Personally. I think we need to get together around a firepit and offer the casino dice up to the chaos gods in sacrifice. Ill donate a $20 den certificate in trade. 

And yeah. Sieze is dumb. 1 in 6 chance you should just pack up and go for beers.

This :-). It was a reasonable game, but I didn't have a path to victory after Kairos died, figured it was best to call it there. I should've let Adam deploy first. You can't get seized when you're the one doing the seizing.

Don't forget the three passed grounding checks too :-). The changeling would've happily kept you in CC for several turns, which would've meant my screamers lived too.

I said to Adam too, I just feel better deploying second. There's less guessing. I could always flip it (CSM / Daemons) and the infiltrate some stuff.

I prefer deploying first for the 5/6 chance to get the first turn. I try to deploy in the field according to plan A. Responding to my opponent involves a possibility of deviating from plan A.

Your army tends to play a bit differently than most armies though Adam. You have enough without LoS shooting with your bunker that deployment is less of an issue. I have been seriously considering either a bastion or aegis line for my tau. It really helps with worrying where you want stuff.

I was saying last time I got seized, I have never won a game when I got seized and I have never lost a game that I seized.

I have been seized maybe 5 times total and 2 times was by Adam.

I really prefer deploying second. Your prepared to go second  but if you do seize.. bonus. I dont have a lot of shooting in my recent armies but it does mean units arive quicker, provide threats and offer up additional targets.

 Although, the alternative in my mind is the 50/50 chance to go first. Deploy as if you do not know that you will get the first turn, and adjust accordingly.

With my Orks, I can hide some vehicles behind terrain or behind battle wagons even if it costs me a few inches. With Eldar, I can move anything super fast so I can deploy hidden. With Guard, I have Fort Awesome and just need to pick a corner. With CSM I think I have the worst deployment options cuz I like them front line and center.
