What were you thinking of points-wise?

1500-1750. Shared Foc. So one player may have 1 Hq, 2 t, 1 e, and 2 hs. The other could have 2 fa instead of 2 hs. Allies matrix would be used.

Re: Doubles Tourney?
So we would share the FOC and would have to double with someone who is "battle-brother" status on the allies Matrix? I'm in either way, but just want to be clear.

Doesn't HAVE to be battle bros. But battle bros would have it better than say Orks/ guard. No come the apoc tho.

Ah, I think I understand, your units interact with your allies according to the allies matrix, even though you will be sharing a single FOC. Like I said, I'm defiantly in. Anyone want a Tau ally?!

Re: Doubles Tourney?
I'm definitely interested, but we may be away, depending on the exact day.
Aidan and I would probably play Chaos and Daemons, or Marines and Marines, or Necrons and Chaos... Something like that.

What about Tau+Eldar?
If tom puts down enough troops, does that mean I could just play HQ+heavy slots. So like a farseer with guide or Eldrad plus a bunch of dark reapers?

Re: Doubles Tourney?
IIRC how beau explained it to me the other night, it goes like this:
Player A: must take an HQ and 2 Troops. may take 1 elite, fast, and heavy. if he wants to take a second heavy, he needs to take at least 1 fast and elite.
player B: must take 1 HQ and 2 Troops. if player A took 1 Elite, fast, and 2 heavy, he may only take 1 elite and 1 fast.
(restrictions were only 2 slots worth of elite, fast, and heavy total between the 2 players.)
if you want to take more than 1 of a certain slot, there has to be at least 1 choice taken from the other 2 slots already.
combinations:
A takes 1 elite, 2 heavy.
B takes 1 fast.
A takes 2 elites, 1 fast
B takes 1 heavy
A takes 2 fast
B takes 1 heavy, 2 Elite
and so on. both players have to have an hq and 2 troops each however, because that's mandatory of all 40k games outside of "school league/patrol league" games.
is that about right, still, beau?
when i finish my work shift today, i'll make a 40k syle FOC flow chart to make it easier to understand if anyone's still unclear.

Re: Doubles Tourney?
Well what has me confused is that you are saying "shares a FOC" and "must both take the mandatory requirements for a primary detachment". Do you see where I'm coming from?

I think Nids are stuck in the BYOBB category still.

Re: Doubles Tourney?
Mike: close. Each player would have to take 1 Hq and 2 troops.
Then between the two of them, they can take 1 e, 1 fa, and 1hs.
Once those 3 slots are filled they can take another e, fa and hs.
And so on. I'll try to type it up tonight.
Scott: sorry that's the way the fluff rolls.

Yeah that pretty much sums it up. They do have to be even on points tho. (So you'll either have a 750 pt or 875 pts force each)

Re: Doubles Tourney?
That is going to make really bizarre lists. Going to have to team up with someone that has good FA then. All of mine are either rubbish (sun/razor-shark) or only good for me/other Tau (pathfinders & tetras) or stuff I don't want to buy (vespids).
Follow-up question. How do warlord trait(s) play out?

Re: Doubles Tourney?
That was kinda the intention. Rather than like the team tourney lists (which plug and play with 3 other lists), these will be made to try and plug holes and maximize synergy.

Re: Doubles Tourney?
I will have to vote the other way. We have made exceptions for other cases, such as the highlander tournament. We allowed Sisters of Battle to take 3 troops, rather than 2.
It is a good idea in principal but it totally discludes one army.

RANT
ffs man; the allies matrix is here to stay, its core rules; either ally with one of the 8 other players here with a nid army, or play your orks. what is the point in whining about this every team tournament guys?? this time you only have to find ONE nid player that'll play with you instead of 4, and that's still too hard? there's Ben, there's Randy, there's Paz, there's Ryan, there's you Scott; oh look, i just named 5 nid players off the top of my head. if you want to play nids in a team tournament, accept the fact you need another nid guy, or, play orks where you have chaos marines, guard, necron, and tau as normal allies that you cant cast buff powers on, or ally with demons, dark angels, eldar, dark eldar, grey knights, space marines, space wolves where you have to do a D6 test when in 6" of each other, where a 1 makes you unable to run move shoot or assault that turn.
stop giving beau such a hard time about this every team event he sets up guys. either deal with it and accept these are the rules he chose, or dont play. stop griping about the poor man using the rules as they're written in the core rule book. you might as well be griping at jervis, ward, and kelly for all the good it does.
END RANT
sorry if that seems harsh robyn, but its just something that's been driving me nuts since i've started helping beau with these tournaments.

Re: Doubles Tourney?
I am not giving Beau a hard time. There is a poll and I didn't realize elections on this site were the same as the 'democratic' elections that were in the movie The Dictator.
Like I said, I will reiterate, as it seems the point was lost on some. It is a good idea in principal, but it discludes one army that at least 5 people play. I could play my Orks but they are less than 20% painted. Then who would want to ally with me?
Have a good time guys. I'll likely sit this one out.

Re: Doubles Tourney?
the allies matrix is loyalist garbage IMHO. it serves zero purpose other than to punish certain armies and give huge bonuses to others, I'd feel differently if it had an basis in balance, but in reality its just fluff.
I don't agree with Scott very often, but here I'm with him. probably because as a chaos marines player, my one battle brother has rules that completely negate the battle brothers rules.
but that's just two opinions. carry on.

Re: Doubles Tourney?
I don't think it's so bad.
In Warmachine there is a similar thing.
Cygnar (The British) have a lot of mercenaries who will work for them plus maybe one other army. The Elves have much less access to mercs cuz they're crazy, and the Undead Pirates also have smaller mercenary access (but I think most pirates will work with them).
The 'good' armies have the power of friendship, the 'evil' armies do not get the power of 'friendship'
As for the difference between Battle Bro's and the Allies of Convenience?
IC's joining squads (but can still never enter allied transports)
psychic powers targeting allies
Warlord Traits that help units within a radius
For chaos in particular, I feel that you even have allies of convenience within the same codex. If I play Kharn list with noise marines, he cannot join that squad. Daemons can only join units of daemons of their alignment. So 1/4 of their own book, plus possessed, warp talons, and oblits.
Ally rules help the empire the most. But Eldar+Dark Eldar or Eldar+Tau is a powerful mix of abilities. And Chaos+Daemons, you can still use Tzeetch guys to buff up a Nurgle or Khorne CSM army with divination powers because they are battle bros. As for Orks, they can mix with most armies, and who would want to still a warboss into a guardsman blob? He should be with the boyz to use mob rule and his bosspole.
Allies seem fine to me
End Rant
