daemon prince attacks

i wanna see if anyone else thinks this sounds right:
a daemon prince is an MC, so it has the Smash USR, so all its close combat attacks are AP 2.
if you give it The Black Mace, which is Str user, AP 4, Fleshbane (always wounds on 2+) Daemon Weapon, Cursed, then does that mean it becomes this in melee:

D6+5 AP2 Attacks @ Initiative 8, that always wound on a 2+

does that sound right to you guys as well? far as i can tell, that's what the BRB and the codex is saying will happen.

I "think" his attacks become ap2.. But im not 100% sure. I have double check the mc wording for smash in the rulebook.. But im sure thats how itd work

Based on what I'm looking at, you're 100% right. Wounds on a 2+ AP2 attacks. The Strength only matters for armour pen and instant death.

the wording on Smash is :

"all of the close combat attacks, Except hammer of Wrath attacks, of a model with this special rule are resolved at AP2."

It goes on to specify "(unless its attacking with an ap1 weapon)"

fairly certain your 100% on target here. the second line is agreeing that the ap2 would normally overrride the natural AP of the wielded weapon, and giving an out to the lucky guy with a MC that gets to wield an ap1 beatstick.

Its 190 points with no wings or armor save yet. but its definitely a little bit scarey.

250 points. 265 with Mark of Tzeench (3+/4++), 245 without Power Armour but with Mark of Tzeench. (4++ save)

I just noticed that DP's are WS9 I8 A5 now. That's kinda alright.

yea, just putting together that daemon prince for candi right now and wanted to make sure her cheat sheet that'll tell her its stats in-game was going to be accurate.

no idea which mark to give it yet. tzeentch or slaanesh maybe. then for weapons either the burning brand of skalathrax, or the black mace.
im leaning towards the mace cause of its curse rule; if she causes an unsaved wound, which is very likely, then those wounded take a toughness test, possibly dieing. then everything within 3" of him has to do the same.

it'll also have wings, and maybe power armor.

dont forget re-roll to wound if your strength is > toughness of target. =P

I just noticed the marks are different for the princes. Tzeench re-rolls failed saves of "1", Slaneesh gets Fleet.

yea, the daemons are thus:
khorne gets furious charge
tzeentch gets re-roll saves of 1
nurgle gets shrouded, slow and purposeful
slaanesh gets fleet, rending, run D6+3"

where does it say they get the bonus from marks? they don't get marks.

Not only do they get marks, but they must take one.

Yeah.. That khorne one is rough.. Furious charge.. Woo hoo.

I like them all .. Excpet khorne. Argh.

It seems to me that Daemon Princes have gone from pretty damn good... to Immortal Lords of War!

So, they are faster, stronger, meaner, and can grab a LOT more than a single close combat weapon.... but it comes at a price... LOTS of points


which makes sense to me. A Daemon Prince should be all that, but it should be a real big bite on points

I also love the 1/18 chance that you spawn one every time one of your champions down a character

A toughness 5 model with 4 wounds and a 5++ save?

Big Pile of Stink. You trick 'em out... then they cost well over 200pts.

Think of it this way Adam, over 200pts for a model you can kill with one round of Dakkajet fire.

I think the only way they could be close to viable is armor/wings and their mark. Possibly a psyker level or 2. That's in the 250,range. Why not just take abandon?

yea, they're not cheap; this is what Candi's DP has:

- base cost 145pts
- wings +40pts
- Power Armor +20pts
- Daemon of Slaanesh +10pts
- The Black Mace +45pts
total = 260pts

290pts if we give it Burning Brand of Skalathrax so it has a Str 4 AP3 template weapon that can be placed 12" away, and causes Soul Blaze.
or 285pts to give it psyker lvl 1 and grab the slaanesh primaris to give it a 24" Str 4 AP 4 assault 4 attack with blind, pinning, and concussive.

either way expensive as hell. but with that boon table, she needed the model in case she ever rolls for it, and she thinks it looks cool.

*I dont beleive you can take the Black mace and the Burning Brand on the same model, unless I read that wrong, cuz If I did I totally want to roll a Biker Lord with the Axe of Blind Rage and the Burning Brand

You can. Max one of each in an army. Each replaces a weapon. Doh dp only have one weapon. Mike you be cheatin' homie.

hmm, if it replaces a weapon, then she'll have to make it a psyker to have a shooty attack then. which is fine, really; that primaris isnt a bad power at all looking at it.

Yes they are each unique (except for mirror match)

but there is a line under the Chaos Artefact Header: "A model can replace one weapon with one of the following."

Which I would interpret as each model can only take a single artefact, that you would need a 2nd HQ to take a 2nd artefact. (Excluding Special characters who get 2 or 3 artefacts)

Ah correct I saw 2+ to wound and assumed poison rather then flesh bane.
