Rocket Attacks and You

Just wanting to say hi again, still here in good ol Afghanistan and its still as hot as ever.
Not to mention all the moondust with its good ol 20-30% mix of fecal matter.

so anyways, the past couple of days has been interesting, i was getting ready for shift and the alarm for a rocket attack goes off.

what the camp rules are, you hit the ground and lay there for 2min, and then move your way to a bunker. Theres tons of bunkers all over the place so finding one isn't hard.
but what also happened was there was a couple of insurgents that wanted to go see Allah a little quicker then usual.
a camp of a couple thousand guys, they thought they could take on with only 17 persons

haha anyways, I guess the news had it up and running before we even went to bed that night.

so yea...

why wait for 2 minites wouldent it be eaisier to just run to a bunker, also dont have to answear this one if you do not wantt to but did you kill any of the insurgents assulting your base. i have to admit that is pretty crazy and requires fanatical devotion to attack a base with 17 guys i am assuming they were all killed.

ya when I heard the talle were trying to take the air field I was a little shocked. Even if they were 200 strong they might have gotten past the first gate... Really a suicide mission. They just want to send some poor bastards over so cbc would play the story for a couple a days. Any way its good to hear that your okay. Take her easy man

Yea i was at work when it started so i was safe!

No i have not killed anyone but my friend has and hes a recce/sniper so hes trained to do it and to deal with it. The one time it was a trigger man for an IED so he had authority from the CO directly.

im a radio guy so i just call for arty,supply, fast air etc

I have a few cousins and friends in the Israeli military and their protocal is to hit the nearest bunker ASAP when you hear that rockets are incoming.

What is the purpose of sitting still for two minutes?... if you don't mind me asking.

well we have an early warning device that is on constantly, it somehow senses the mortar/rockets before they impact. So the alarm goes off and everyones to hit the ground for 2min. the reason is because if your running to the bunker at the sound of the alarm, and it actually lands near you, you have a greater chance of the shrapenal flying and hitting you when your standing then when your laying on the ground.

so when your standing your a bigger target, but if your laying down your removing 90% of a target so most of the shrapenal will fly over you.

but you also have to remember, if it lands anywhere close to you, standing or laying down, your going to be in a big time hurt locker.

I believe the danger radius of a mortar, its also depending on the size etc etc, is like 500m, the kill radius is like 100m or something. Im not in the artillery but i'll ask one of the guys that works in my building about kill radius and danger radius if you want
