Day One: Bits Inventory
I love building Daemon Princes, so I've been rolling ideas around in my head for the past while what to do with my next one. I know I want to do another Cthulhu prince, but I figured for this I should have a prince getting it's freak on. Thus this pile of bits ensued.

Starting off with some basic arm swaps. Simply sliced the fore-arms off of the stock Daemon Prince arms and pinned on my replacement fore-arms from the Talos Pain Engine kit with a touch of Green Stuff and a small length of paper clip.

Day Two:
Starting today off by removing one set of Needlessly Spiky Details and replacing them with a more ornate set of Needlessly Spiky Details.
As much as I love working with this kit, I still can't get over just how small the Daemon Prince actually is. Got to be careful with him, as things can get very crowded very fast. Spacing on the arms are going to be critical, as I am shooting to give him four, and I need to leave a lot of space around the head, as its going to be a big one.

Up next I carve out some sockets to receive arms number three and four, as well as drilling a hole in the back of the pewter head to receive a length of wire to help hold that monstrosity in line with the rest of the model as I work to line it up and sculpt the blob of Green Stuff that will become it's neck.

It's a spiffy bit that probably wouldn't have seen use on anything else. I am thinking about painting those racks up like exposed bone.

Re: Tom's Daemon Prince
Time for a big photo bomb.
Drilled a small hole at the base of the neck so that the length of paper clip could go into it, anchoring the head.
The head now has it's paper clip bit glued, bent, and trimmed down.
Dry fit of the head, making sure the paper clip is bent the right amount.
With the dry fit completed, it turns out I needed not one of this bit, but three of them.
Insert blob of Green Stuff here.
Some basic sculpting using my scalpel and arse end of a small paint brush, both wetted first, helps to make the Green Stuff look less like a blob and more like part of the Daemon Prince. Once it sets over night I'll be able to play around with the model at bit more to see if I need to add more matterial to that part or not.

Re: Tom's Daemon Prince
two suggestions to make your epoxy cleaner and less messy:
1-Use a small touch of vaseline on your tools when sculpting, it helps smooth out gs.
2-use sculpting tools, helps a lot. You can buy a set from the den for 5 bucks

Re: Tom's Daemon Prince
I have an actual sculpting tool somewhere around here, it just ended up getting lost in the shuffle at some point. However, I did go back a do a touch of clean up with a different tool. Good thing I decided to do a quick dry fit while I was at it. Turns out I had to nudge his spinal spines a bit to one side so as to not conflict with is new trophy racks. A lot easier to do while the Green Stuff is still setting.

Day Three:
Left arms! Some more drilling and pinning involved here, as I wanted to canter the primary arm up so I'd have some room for the secondary one. Already this guy looks like he's going to be interesting to paint.

Days Four through Six:
Day four was a game day for me, with days five and six being "surprise cross-province road trip" days. I'll be getting back to this guy shortly, schedule permitting. In the mean time...

Day Eight:
Finally had a chance to sit down and do some work again, attached the right set of arms. Bit of Green Stuff was used to rotate the stock arm a bit so as to give the chains a more dynamic angle and to give the tendril arm some more breathing room.
Conversion work and body assembly fast approaches completion! Soon I will be turning my attention to the base.

I would never believe that Tom from last year is the same Tom as this year.

Day Nine:
Went to begin final assembly of the Prince only to realize that I didn't modify the tail, and that I could! Green Stuff left deliberately rough so the tendril is shown as splortching out of the tail.

Final Daemon Prince Assembly:
Now I need to get a bunch of thin, wooden stir sticks to use on the base!

Re: Tom's Daemon Prince
Starting to feel left behind by some of the other competition blogs here, so between that and ideal priming weather starting to slip away, I need to get moving! I have laid down the initial "carpentry" for the base of the Daemon Prince. That big hole there? That is where that Malinthrope tail is going to be busting through the deck of the ship! Water theme, go!

Touch of polish takes the base from looking like a mangled Popsicle raft to an actual base.

Re: Tom's Daemon Prince
Starting to get some colors on this guy now. Based with Wazdakka Red, with some coats of Flash Gitz Yellow where I want to have some warm rune work and eyes. I think his eyes are going to be a bit of an experiment to see if I can pull off the "glowing ember eyes" effect. While the yellow is a bit sloppy right now, subsequent layers/washes/colors will clean it up.

Day Ten:
More color! The brass was the last color I added today, and I find it really brought everything together, especially so when I applied it to the cranial plating.

Re: Tom's Daemon Prince
Switching gears a touch to give me a break from the Prince himself, as he's starting to get to the point where colour additions are hitting diminishing returns. Have a based and mostly painted base. I'm thinking I'll blend up some highlights for the carapace on the tentacle later tonight. All in all, this little guy here should provide some nice contrast for the Prince, making him pop even more.

Re: Tom's Daemon Prince
Not that much time left, and now I am stuck with steps that require a lot of waiting. Attaching the Daemon Prince to the base now with glue, Green Stuff, and some pinning. Once that's done, I have to re-attach the tail, touch up any paint worn off from manipulation, then it's time for layers of Purity Seal and washes!
If everything goes smoothly, I might even toss together one of those 360 view videos that GW is oh so fond of.
