Hey Dom (And others) I haz a question regarding bases
Hey Dom (and others),
I've noticed all you guys with real cool bases and you all make it look so easy. Out of Dom's work, his bases are very nice and show some real modelling effort.
What are people using, how do you get it to look so nice?
It's one area where I could stand to make dramatic improvements.
Thanks :-)

if you dont wanna do all the work of making the base, but just wanna paint it, you can goto Secret Weapon Minatures and buy their beveled bases; they have a total of 20 different styles of bases. they're super detailed. that's where i got those temple bases my relic contemptor stands on. they come in good prices too; for $36, you get 2 sets of 10 of the 25mm bases, 5 of the 40mm bases, and a pair of 60mm bases (each of different design). individually, the sets run for $10 for 10 25mm bases, $10 for 5 40mm bases, $5 for a 60mm base, $10 for the large ovals flyers and trygons come with, and $6 for 3 biker-style bases.
Anvil Industries also sells about 6 styles of bases, but theirs have this funky jagged design underneath them that makes them stand and grip onto any kind of slops of rough terrain, so no wobbly model syndrome. but for ascetics, i think secret weapon's designs are better.
that said, secret weapon's also been making bases for 4 years, and anvil industries only started 6 months ago.

I like Dragon Forge if you want pre made bases. Best quality out of all the ranges I've tried.

Re: Hey Dom (And others) I haz a question regarding bases
here's how I do a easy base.
grab a pile of bitz. tubes, guns, pipes. Cut up. glue in interesting arrangement on base, taking into account where the feet of the model will go. also think how things fall, how they would lay. then add sand. voila!

I hear that cork board also works great, especially if you need to stab some wire into it for another part of the model (such as the paperclip put inside a length of green stuff for the flames coming out of a jet pack).

If I want bark, I just go to the wood pile in my back yard.
