Destroyers, really? Aren't flayed ones terrible also? I realize you're going with the models you have available, but it might be time to just let those go. Or wait until 6th ed rules changes when flayed ones can assault off deep strike.

Are they talking about allowing assaults off of deep-strike? That'd be ridiculous.

That's one of the rumours. I don't know how much stock I'd put in it. But everything else in the Necron book seems relatively well balanced and flayed ones just kinda stick out as being super-extra crappy. People were thinking if they could assault off deep strike they might be worth it.

I could drop the destroyers and flayed ones for Wraiths and a Destroyer Lord.

I think Destroyers aren't *that* bad though I could put a Destroyer Lord with a res orb with them, they'd be punishing if anything assaulted them. Destroyer Lord is scary on paper (Didn't work well in practice against CSM though).

Flayed Ones and Destroyers from above list is 225 (10 / 15 points to spare) I'm not 100% sure if you can take Mindshackle Scarabs on a Destroyer Lord, that'd be the money upgrade. (I'll have to pretend that his rez orb is broken though, wraiths can't reanimate anyway)

I would only put whip coils on 1 wraith. This has 2 advantages. First you save 10 points, second you can now wound allocate your wraiths which makes them potentially more durable. When you assault you estimate as close to 6" as possible from the whip coil wraith and put the other one in the trail position. Your opponent will have to pile in as many models as he can on the one with whip coils.

Dude, you play Tau. You know how lousy str5 shooting is. A change from str6 to str5 is a huge deal. Also a change from jetbikes to jump infantry is a huge deal. Time to face the music, destroyers got hosed That being said, if preferred enemy works with shooting in 6th ed they might go from being useless to merely crappy.
