making a necron list

thinking over how to use the necrons i bought before they had a new book, plus the couple new kits i bought when they did get one.  before taking any optional wargear on the crypteks or lords, the list of models looks like this.

Total Roster Cost: 1410

HQ:
   1 Overlord
   1 Destroyer Lord
   Royal Court with 3 Crypteks

Elite:
   5 Deathmarks
   5 Lychguards with Hyperphase Swords & Dispersion Shields
   5 Triarch Praetorians with Voidblades & Particle Casters

Troops:
   20 Warriors
   5 Immortals, with Gauss Blasters
   5 Immortals with Tesla Carbines

Fast Attack:
   2 Destroyers

Heavy Support:
   1 Annihilation Barge

Good core to start from. Only thing I might suggest is take out the 2 destroyers and use those points to buy either:

More Immortals of your choice

Wraiths for Destroyer lord to roll with

Find another 10 pts and buy another Annihilation Barge


I WANT to like Destroyers, but they just don't bring quite enough to the table for the pts they cost I find, especially if you only have 2. A bigger squad can lay some serious hurt down but it's a huge investment.

I got a lord with res orb and a metal immortal if youre interested.

yea, it was the original boxed set; i used of the 3 from it along with a poorly casted stormlord i got a while back from someone to make a destroyer lord instead.  i'd like to expand the immortals to 10 each.  maybe another barge too.

The Destroyer Lord is solid, with no need to swap out his base weapons. Crypteks are pretty great, being the App Store for the army. Never been a big fan of the Praetorians, always struck me as expensive for what they do, but they can look nice when painted up well.

The Immortals are good, but generally like being in larger squad sizes. At 5 heads a squad, you can easily be denied your get-back-up if anyone decides to make them dead.

Destroyers *can* be good in a threat overload list, but the range on the basic Gauss Cannon kind of hurts. They feel to me like a unit that wants to flash out a volley, hammer of wrath in, and exit combat on the following turn. People tend to see them coming and squish them in short order, though, and their CC ability is comparable to a Nurgle Raptor who swapped out their pistol.

Barges are just crazy efficient dakka.

I would personally swap out the Praetorians and Destroyers for significantly more boots on the ground, as your troop base is still kind of fragile, though wargear in your HQ slot can help smooth that out.
