Flesh Tearers
missed my blood angels and decided with the new codex i'll rebuild the army. this time i'm going with flesh tearers and so far im finding it very easy to paint. this time around, i'm going to try and just paint up to tabletop 3 color standard, and add in further detail after the army is finished to that point. this should prevent any unpainted stuff from being on the table.
first model is this libby dread:
used the right arm of an ironclad, and the claw fingers from a contemptor arm to make his blood fist. i also replaced that ugly deathmask face on the sarcophagus with one of the heads from the venerable dread kit.
here he is next to a furioso dreadnought:
the furioso is an ironclad with the furioso face plate, and the fist was altered to have 5 fingers.
here's a little more work on the furioso:

Re: Flesh Tearers
so i started painting a sternguard for my FT, and followed a step given in WD46.
here's the red basecoat over black primer, single coating:
here's how it turned out after washing it with a 1:3 mix of Nuln Oil:Lahmian Medium
i only did a single coat of the mix, but it darkened down the red just a little bit more, and evenly, to get where i'm happy with it. and the lahmian medium used to dilute the nuln oil enough so it covers evenly instead of pooling also gave it a nice matte finish to all of the red plate as well.
as im painting these up, im thinking of what theme i want for the bases. right now im thinking of a winter arctic look. probably using the Mourn Mountain Snow paint, muddy it up with some nuln oil or agrax earthshade, and drybrush some white back over the tops. maybe some arctic grass tufts here and there.

Re: Flesh Tearers
also bought the deathstorm box, which is a great deal btw; over $500 of stuff in that $150 box; and its the full actual kits in the box, not the cheap snapfits in the starter kits. you also get a full mini rulebook with the set as well, in case you were debating on buying the little $70 hardback.
started the death company squad in the set. has a specific loadout that makes it over 200pts, but the tradeoff is it becomes a troop choice. same with the DC dread; he's only 5pts more than a normal one, but also becomes a troop with the character type.
