I don't know how good/bad the weapons/special rules are. I've only gotten through the first dozen or so pages of the rules. For how rolling works and AROs and orders. Seems cool so far. The reactive style of play is interesting.
Is not taking the maximum 6 SWC a big deal? I would think that most people work their lists to get as many of them as possible?
Not maxing out your SWC is not big deal. Sometimes you just can't do it.
As for the weapons and special rules you've got a little of everything so you should stack up quite well in a casual gameplay setting. Hopefully we can get together and do a demo game here soon so we can chat more about the special rules/troop types and how they tie into missions and things.

Your best bet would be Monday. Problem with that is that everywhere is closed on Monday so if you have to do some running around you're SOL. Give me a text when you do decide to come in and I'll see if I can find a hole to stick some Infinity in.

Re: Infinity
Tom- chaksa are the tits for sure. They are kinda like the kroot for tau; an alien race that have been force-evolved under the auspices of the Tohaa protection, but basically made into a servant race. Love their rules as well.
interesting thing about the Tohaa, they can make fireteams! Fireteams (also called linkteams) is basically using squads in infinity: makes the unit more powerful working together. Every other faction can only use fireteams in sectorials; specialist armies made up of specific army units. Tohaa can do it for their entire race, in specialized "tohaa tridents" three man hunting teams. They also almost all wear symbiote suits that pump up their stats.

@ Paz
Indeed very Tau-like! So far I like the little fluff that I have read. Is there a section of the website that has that? So far I've been glancing at rules and flipping through the rules pdf when I have time, but haven't seen much on the history involved. Just snippets here and there.

tohaa units
the fluff for each unit is in the unit entry when you click on it. The racial fluff is in the physical copy of the rulebook, but you can go to the infinity wiki for fluff and rules as well!

Yup had gone through those =)
I figured it would be in the actual book. Have to keep something back so people have an extra reason to buy it. I'll have to check out the wiki this weekend when I have some more time.
Stupid work!

which, jesus, any smart company that wants to sell minis should do. Make sure ppl can try the game so they buy the minis you are trying to sell them.

Re: Infinity
There is also lots of fluff under the "Miniatures" portion of the site. Click on the model you like and it gives a quick back story along the right-hand side.
Edit: PS Don't buy ta hard copy of the main rulebook as 3rd edition is slated to come out this fall some time. Nothing worse then buying a rulebook and then replacing it 4-6 months later.

Re: Infinity
Well the core rules being free is one of the big reasons why I'm considering picking it up. Having spent several hundred dollars on rules for games over the years (Warhammer fantasy edtions 4-6, 40k editions 3-7?) I love the fact that I just have to buy models for this game. And honestly I am not a huge conversion fan, so all the models coming "one way" doesn't bother me at all.
It doesn't hurt that they do have some really good sculpts for each faction.

Well I'm glad I looked at the Tohaa. While a lot of the other factions have good sculpts, they all look a little anime-ish for me. Giant horned symbiotic-thingy though, I'm all over that!
Been reading the forums a bit. So many acronyms though makes some of the posts really hard to read. Just looks like someone vomited alphabet soup sometimes.
People be whining about the Gorgos. Clearly they be wusses because even if the rules are terrible a real man would still put it down.

If I was to tweek it for tournament play, oh yea. Although It would involve me buying models I'm meh about. Same thing for the Gorgos. In tournament play it is to many points for a single model that has such a large drawback.
The stuff I've chosen so far is just because I like the look of it. Not to mention making use of buying packs to try and keep the cost down. The Gorgos is my splurge choice because it is such a cool looking model.

Re: Infinity
Here's a couple ones you'll soon learn, central to the game:
MSV: multi-spectral-visor- 3 levels of this, each allowing you to see deeper into camo and invisibility units. MSV3 is only available to lke, 3 models in the game. Super rare, since it sees through EVERYTHING.
HI: heavy infantry- hackable, generally, power armor.
LI: light infantry- your general dudes
ODD: optical disruption device. aleph has lots of this, basically a shield that gives you a -6 cover to hit this dude. ugh.
360visor: lets your guy see in all directions. you cant sneak up on him.
ECM: electronic counter measures- device on TAGs (tactical armored gears, or mechs) that stops missiles, sometimes. chaff flares, basically.
AD: airborne deployment, or deepstrike.
CH: camo. reduces the chances of being hit
Forward observer: basically a spotter for snipers and missiles.
sixth sense: probably the central ability to learn, has multiple levels, allows you bonuses and benefits across the board. Making a fire team gives you SS level2
ghost: basically your robo-servants. synched to a specific model with the hacking ability (or a TAG, which is what a real man brings to the table).
theres a slew more, and it seems like a lot, but they fit in quite easily to the game, and you memorize em really quickly after a few games.
GORGOS: ppl moan about the gorgos because it is basically a gundam mixed with Venom- light it on fire and it dies like the cheapest infantry. But that means getting close enough to light this mother up, and thats not easy.
All tags are a risk/reward situation. tough, but can get ganged up on (or monofilamented, basically the instant death weapon of infinity!) but one on one it will rip to shreds any other unit in the game.
The biggest and most disgusting GODMODE tag is the Combined Avatar. most expensive and powerful unit, but it means you need shitloads of cheap cheerleaders to keep him up.
Oh, and "cheerleader" is a term you will hear a lot. Since every model gives an order, one tactic (that can pay off or get you ganked soooooo fast from deep strikers) is it run a "rambo", an expensive beatstick, while the rest of your force is primarily make up of defensive drones and super cheap "cheerleaders", or order pool monkeys. Your rambo can basically use all the orders for himself to blaze the nuts off the other force by hisself, while you hide your order cheerleaders.
The danger arises when your opponent AD's in a HMG (heavy machine gun, for you noobs) and blasts apart your weak cheerleaders, and bam, you are in retreat and in LoL (loss of luitenant, a very bad situation).

Re: Infinity
ammunition is another big part of the game. most weapons are basic but the cool ones get access to special ammo that drastically changes tactics, it really makes you think what you want to fire. some weapons might deal no damage but have a very adverse effect on the combat. someone sitting in cover with TO (thermal optic camo) gets a crazy bonus to def and you have a horrible penalty to shoot them. one wiff of a flame attack and suddenly that camo is useless. likewise a single emp grenade can shut down a hmg heavy trooper or disable the missile launcher on a light infantry. plus support roles in this are huge, engineers can fix emp and repair tags/remotes (and if your crazy lucky slap a demo charge to something and watch it go poof!) , hackers can both hack enemy tags/remotes/heavy armor and be used to counter it, and doctors give you a chance to revive downed team members. plus there are remotes (robots) who can be used by the supports to remotely use their skills while they stay hidden (best remote control toy ever!). and thats just scratching the surface.
in short, I need to play this game more...

Yeah we need a section on here to set up games/discussions as well it feels. I really did not know there were that many people playing because they are all so disconnected from each other.

Looking at the online army builder it doesn't let you take the servants if you don't take the Kumotail (bio-engineers). Which makes sense.
Been reading some more and Tohaa sound so fun to play. They have some interesting rules and have a couple of nasty builds going for them. I think I'm still going to stick with the models I like for now and pick up what I had posted before. Although looking at it a box of Makaul troops is right behind that stuff. Linking them to fire teams seems invaluable. Along with more Sakiel.
Edit: and a Gao-Tarsos with an HMG.
