The format for this one was a bit different from what I had envisioned, so I am going to have to wing this one a touch.

First up to bat: 2x 40mm Gauss Flux Nodes!  I'll have to figure out what my other 4 will be as the month rolls on.  Just need to find some small, styrofoam balls now...

Edit: Time and resources permitting, I think I will try for a minor Dolmen Gate for the 60mm one.  Need to do some concepting...

Having looked through how GW is generally presenting Necron Engineering and such, I think I'm going to base the gate off of how the Ghost Ark's ribs are styled, and thus this bit of concepting came to be.

Likely not to scale yet, but certainly enough for me to work with as I strive to learn Blender this month.

What you modeling it in blender for? or just part of learning blender?

As the pieces I wish to use for this don't exist, and I am not nearly good enough at Green Stuff work to accomplish something of this scale cleanly, I was going to instead make an arch half in 3D with Blender, and then get a pair printed off. This should help keep things consistently styled with the rest of the army, while being unique enough to stand out. It will also be the last one I work on, as I will need the smaller ones for Tom M's tournament.

Finally got around to finishing trimming the Gauss Blasters for use in the project, along with getting the "barrels" drilled out to receive wire later in the project.  I'm going to start work on some simple Green Stuff work on the termy bases.

Still trying to figure out how I want to tackle the basing, but I'm leaning towards using the new technical crackle paint GW put out.

The first node has been "powered up", as it were. This really blasts through my supply of florist wire quickly, it seems.

Green Stuff has locked the wires in place and is curing as I post this. Tomorrow after work I will begin work on priming and painting these guys.

what are you using to paint the styrofoam with? most spray paints will eat those balls, and it would be a waste to see a cool idea like this be buggered by that.

I was going to use a Grey primer by army painter via my Air Brush rather than by a can.

I have to say, I am kinda curious to see what the Tau version would look like. I might want to slap together my 25mm ones first before I get to painting, though, so I can prime all that in one shot. Still need to get to building that pylon, too...

I have to say, these guys primed just fine. Also pictured are my three 25mm objectives. I think the texture on the balls looks awesome, given the effect I am going for, and will really lend itself well to dry brushing. Sadly, I did not take the texture into account when applying the Green Stuff 'locks', or it could have meshed better.

I was picturing something more matrix-y, you know deep blacks brought up to veiny organic pinks.

Edit: They look great. I'm wondering if the smoothness of a ping-pong ball would've better fit the Necron asthetic. There's something amiss with the texture of the foam. We'll see how they shape up :-) Better than I could do, that's for sure.

I'm trying to get the end effect to more or less line up with the pallet of my army, so dark metallics on the guns, bone on some plating, get some red going on in the Gauss node. I'm looking forward to busting out some of that technical basing paint to get some obsidian ground crackling with green veins.

The nice thing is, though, these guys are relatively easy (if a bit tedious) to make; and can be easily reproduced and painted with any pallet you so choose!

I am still working on these, just feeling really tired for some reason. Did some testing with the Agrelian Earth earlier today, didn't blend well at all with the black. Also uncertain if accelerating the drying with the hairdrier buggered with the crackle process or not.

Ideally I want this general glow showing through the cracks. As it is now, though, it will be glowing through a dusty brown instead of a black. For the life of me I can't track down the tutorial associated with this image, which is the effect I want to do.

Varrying degrees of success with the basing. Would have worked much better with a black crackle for contrast.

Well, seeing as no one has called this round to a close or anything, this seems as appropriate of place as any to post this.

60mm based Necron themed objective marker for the team tournament this weekend. The Dolmen Gate will have to wait for another day, it seems.

Amazing how much life a simple coat of metallic lends to a mini.

All in all, I think the 60mm one is sitting in a good place now. Always room to do more, though honestly I think I want to focus my attentions elsewhere currently.

Tried out a few more of the new supplies today. It seems that the matte sealant I put onto the 60mm one dulled the colours slightly, though that might just have been me putting too much on. Futher experimentation will tell in the future.
