I was talking with Tom earlier today about a list I was concepting out for an ally module with Codex: Space Marines.  Do note that this list is written with the current 5th Ed Space Marines, and would likely need some tweaks come the new release.


HQ:
Coteaz. 100 pts

Ordo Malleus Inquisitor, Terminator Armor, Daemon Hammer, Mastery 1, Brain Mines. 105 pts

Master of the Forge, Bike. 135 pts

Troops:
Warband
Jokaero x2, Flamer Acolytes x3, Chimera, Search Light. 168 pts

Warband
Jokaero x2, Flamer Acolytes x3, Chimera, Search Light. 168 pts

Warband
Death Cult Assassins x6 (axe/sword), Crusader, Warrior Acolyte. 105 pts

Sniper Scouts x5. 75 pts

Elites:
Tech Marines, Rad Grenades, Psychotroke Grenades.  115 pts

Vindicare Assassin. 145 pts

Ironclad Dreadnought, Drop Pod. 170 pts

Heavy Support:
Land Raider Crusader, Psybolt, Multi-melta. 270 pts

Dreadnought, TL Auto Cannon x2, Psybolt. 135 pts

Dreadnought, TL Auto Cannon x2, Psybolt. 135 pts

Ironclad Dreadnought, Drop Pod. 170 pts


Now, the check lists!
Anti-horde?  Check! -- flamer spam, psybolt hurricane bolters
Anti-armor?  Check! -- 7 multi-meltas, a vindicare, str 8 power axes, str 10 daemon hammers, siege drills, dakka dreads.
Anti-flier?  Limited --  Dakka Dreads, TL Assault Cannon, potential for prescience on other shooting.
Objective taking?  Check! -- 4 troops.
Challenge tech?  Limited -- Brain Mines, 2+ armor saves on notable challenge recipients.
Anti-monsters?  Check!  -- Snipers, str 6+ shooting, rad grenades.
Anti-high mobility?  Nope! -- Notable weak point, no torrent weapons to deal with Jet Bikes.
Psychic Defense? Limited -- Land Raider, occupants, Dakka Dreads DTW on a 5+; Coteaz DTW on a 4+ vs Lvl 1's.
Gimmick? Check! -- 20% chance for a Burn Team to get Rending flamers.


Holy crap, I just realized that for 10 points you can throw a Psyker into a warband just to give it a 5+ DTW for the whole game.

Master of the Forge might be primary detachment only.

In the event that the MotF looses his FoC modifications while not in a primary, I could drop the plain Warrior Acolyte, one Search Light, and the HS Ironclad and replace it with a Thunderfire Cannon and a second Sniper Scout Squad.

The new wording on Lord of the Armoury does mention detachments, but not primary. I think he got worded the way he did so that if you did SM allied with SM you didn't get to double dip on a singled Master of the Forge.

Going through the points changes, I was able to keep the double Iron Clad and splurge some points so swap out their Storm Bolters for Heavy Flamers and to give them Assault Launchers. This also means I need to add in an addendum of "Chapter Tactics: Iron Hands" to the ally portion of the list.

I piddled around a bit to make a version of the list that would be easy enough for me to proxy and field, and I have to say I'm rather happy with the results, winning on bottom of three. Here's what I ran:


Inquisition (Grey Knights) with Mechanicus (Iron Hands) support.

HQ:
Coteaz. 100 pts

Warband -- Sword/Axe Assassins x6, Crusader, Acolyte. 105 pts

Scouts x8, Sniper Rifles x7, Camo Cloaks, Heavy Bolter, Hellfire Shells. 124 pts

Elites:
Grey Knight Tech Marine, Rad Grenaders, Psychotroke Grenades. 115 pts

Vindicare Assassin. 145 pts

Ironclad Dreadnought, Heavy Flamer (Fist), Assualt Launchers, Drop Pod. 190 pts

Heavy Support:
Land Raider Crusader, Psybolt Ammo, Multi-Melta, Search Light. 271 pts

Dreadnought, TL Auto Cannon x2, Psybolt Ammo. 135 pts

Nemesis Dreadknight, Heavy Incinerator, Nemesis Great Sword, Personal Teleporter. 260 pts

2000 points on the dot.


I have to say things took quite the turn for the worse when the Swarmlord outflanked onto the board edge beside the Land Raider rather than beside the Scouts. Most of the army turned around and vaporised his Tyrand Guard escort, allowing the Assassin blob with attached Inquisitors and Tech Marine a clean charge against his Warlord. Psyk-out grenades dropped the big bad to Init 1, Rad Grenades dropped him to T5, Psychotroke Grenades allowed me to re-roll to hit, and I managed to squeek out two Hammer Hands even under the Shadows of the Warp to make the 24 Assassin Power Sword swings resolve at Str 6. Poor thing didn't even get to swing back.
