here's the layout for the next ZM board i plan to make, this time a 4x4 board with 2" tall walls.  this one will be made with the idea of having doors and difficult terrain objects placed on the board.  The yellow lines are where the walls will be.  each "square" you see in the floor design is a 1" square.  the white markings are spaced at 3" intervals, and they're anchor points where i'd be able to position a wall post to hold a wall.

got all the walls for the first half done. 20 6" walls, and 20 3" walls.  need another 22 6" and 20 3" for the bottom half of the board.

nice storage box for all the walls and posts.  might have to make a 2nd box for posts and props since i dont think ill fit all 103 wall posts needed for the map into half of the storage box.

that one completed section there, cost me....lets say about $8 once you divide up the cost of supplies down to individual sheets of paper.
the exact same size of panel in the FW tiles, which admittedly comes with thicker (2") walls, would have cost $41.  thats using their new pricing, if anyone's been watching their site.  they dropped the cost of each ZM tile considerably recently.  that said, the pricing for the total number of tiles needed for 4'x4' still tops out at over $575.  this should cost around $100 all said and done.

Thats Ordinary paper? You just fold it like oragami?
Im interested to know if that can be used to make other terrain, like for Infinity (so multi level, futureistic looking wall/floor sections.)

I especially like the objective markers I saw you had made for the ZM tournament....

If I remember right, the objectives were paper craft with foam coring.

to answer your question, matt, yes, its just paper. cardstock to be exact.  using plain 20lb paper wont be strong enough, so you need the 110lb card stock stuff.  its all paper designs you print out and the sheets have tabs you fold over and glue to make the designs. 

the stuff is VERY sturdy once built, and i've seen several examples of it used for infinity and malifaux and other model based games.

just how wide is one of those square floor tiles?

each of the "squares" in the design is a 3"x3" square. the floor tiles are a set of 6"x6" sections, totaling 32 6x6 sheets for this one board once it's done.  the other half that will eventually accompany it will bring that to a whopping 64 sheets.

in the end, this is a much more spacious design, allowing between 3" or 6" of space between the wall posts.  but once its all done, this one's also going to get terrain pieces to fill the bigger space in, such as control stations and debris and so on.

i'm thinking of making some Command&Control rooms, maybe some Medical Bays, stuff like that, and possibly make them on small foamboard tiles that can be dropped into the mostly closed off areas to create rooms for more cool factor.
