remember that the aegis line doesn't stop you from crossing it. its just a mobile ruin, for most purposes. moving over it is just difficult terrain, and you can charge up against it to fight guys behind it. little different than hiding in a forest.
tbh, the only reason i field a line is to get access to the quad gun.(100 point rifleman dread with a 4+ cover save and skyfire/interceptor) otherwise, spending 50 points on something that generally appears on the table for free is for bad players. there are a few tricks with it, mostly having to do with IG and Get Back in the fight!... but, meh.

I would really like one to playtest with my tau. Having a guaranteed 4+ cover save wherever I want, and if I back away becomes difficult terrain for my opponent to jump over to eat me sounds like a bargain for 50 points. I find not having power armor makes it much harder to get armor saves with the number of ap 4 anti-infantry weapons rolling around.

I rather enjoy being able to give my warband a blanket 4+, especially given how much 5+ and --/5++ I have in that squad. It also confers the 4+ to the real dread standing behind it, not just the quad gun.
Of note, it has been pointed out to me that the quad gun is T7 with 2W, so it can be gunned down if you really need to.

It's better than it being indestructible. I also know that if the squad manning it is composed of more than 2 models, the average toughness will be less than T7 most of the time.

You make a point both ways. Easier to wound, but if it's part of the unit, you now get to shoot thru all those bodies.

Um. I dont think the gun ever joins the squad tom. Fairly certain it is it'sown being all the time. You wouldnt assign wounds to it like a heavy weapons squad.
Conversly. Your opponent can always shoot at it without consideration for the squad. So you cant protect it by putting a blob in front of it.

I was under the impression that it was effectively part of the squad manning it, a cost of it getting it's BS4, or whatever the operator happened to have.

I've never seen any verbiage to suggest that, rules only state that a model in contact can fire it.

Like Mike said.. Its a separate unit and can be fired upon. If a unit is behind the gun they get a cover.
I think your getting artillery units confused with the gun emplacement.. A guy can fire it if hes in base with it.. But not part of the unit.

Just reread gun replacements. Giving a model behind it a 4+ cover save seems to indicate it's a seperate unit. T7, 2w, 3+/4++ isnt easy to tap. If anything, it's prob more resilient than the dreads.

What you see..
Since the Nov 17th tournament will be my first games against you guys I was curious about the groups stance on "what you see is what you get".
I play CSM so I am primarily worried about marks and upgrades like sigil of corruption or blight grenades. Weapons aren't a problem.

Weapons are the only big one I have ever been concerned about. Grenades and the like I don't see anyone having a problem with as long as you take the time during deployment to go over what is what. Tau is very much like that since a lot of their wargear is "Hard-Wired" which doesn't display on the model. Makes WYSING a bit easier for Tau but I could understand why it would confuse those not accustomed to playing them.

Same with me. Weapons are the biggy. Grenades and marks are so minor they cant get into bars....

Icons are important though.. Or you should at least have a distinguished model of some sort carrying it.
Marks arent a big deal.. But you might get a bit of hassle.if your using berserker models but they are actually plain marines with the mark of slaneesh.. Stuff aling those lines.
If your wondering.. Just post it up here and we'll answer it

Bonus points if you do model in the grenades, though.
