6th edition allies
So one of the more prevalent rumours surrounding 6th is the inclusion of allies... Which i think is a fantastic idea.
More detailed rumours have been surfacing regarding the rules... But as it stands now it looks like depending who you are and which ally you choose.. The amount and options available to you change..
All i know is im damn excited about being to chaos marines and ally with daemons. Real bloodletters and otwntially bloodcruahers back for the khornies is pretty exciting. .. Especially if rumoured assault off DS is in the book.
Any potential teamups your looking forward to? What i particularly like is the options available.. Your not gojng to seany similar arnies on the tBle. I just hope GK are severely limited for allies.. or we'll be seeing psyflemen dreads all over the place..

Re: 6th edition allies
I imagine the allies matrix would look similar to the last page of this.

Re: 6th edition allies
Blood of kittens just posted up some pretty awesome tidbits regarding hull points, flyers, and leaders.
The most interesting i found was the one regarding leadets. You choose one model to lead your army and they get a special ability randomly from 3 different charts.. Either personal, strategic or inspirational.
And all sorts of sources are confirming tou can ourchase terrain as part of your foc.. So bastions, support ghns.. Etc. I imagine theyll be making some unique oieces similar to how they did it in fantasy.

Unholy Alliance of Necrons and Blood Angels? Didn't they have a book where that happened?
Also, what about the Grudging Alliance of Necrons and Grey Knights? Ward books unite! Bring the Doom Chair and a board jumping Lord, have him run into or next to the scariest squad your enemies have and call in a strike on the Lord's head, Phase Shifting through/getting back up after the rain of death ends.

That has to be the least inflamed response I have ever heard to someone citing that book. Amazing.

Re: 6th edition allies
really going to have to see what the allies rules consist of.
I'm sort of hoping its fairly restrictive, there are a lot of units in a lot of armies that could be cherry-picked out that would completely negate the vulnerabilities built in to the current codexes. especially when you bridge the gaps between high value high impact armies and low value horde armies.
Gimme squads of Guardsmen to screen my Havocs. Gimme some Obliterators to back up my Ork tide etc. Perhaps a furioso Dread or two up in the other guy's Grill is just the distraction your guard army needs to lay down heavy Dakka.

If you think about it, this is a brilliant marketing ploy.

If its anything like fantasy its just a matrix for how units between two armies act when playing multiplayer games.. Purely for fun stuff. I hope it's like that. Cherry picking units couldn't work unless there were some major drawbacks.

fairly certain that any special rules wouldnt affect Allied units planes.
there's a vast amount of units that could use the love a sanguinary priest.

Re: 6th edition allies
The one discription i read said varying levels of allies, like....
1) 1 HQ, 2T max
2) 1HQ, 2T, 1E, 1FA
3) as 2 plus 1HS
Note: I don't play Fantasy, so if this is old hat, sorry.

Re: 6th edition allies
quote from a guy who has a copy of the 30th White Dwarf.
in regards to allies:
in regards to allies:
It looks like its percentages instead of FOC, I'm only going by the fact that there's a 2500 point battle and the IG has GK allies including a aegis defense line with Icarus cannon. The total amount is exactly 750 points which is 25% of the list.
The CSM army has daemons allies which is also 748 point which is just under.
So its probably percentage based but I couldn't find an exact breakdown.
Overwatch is basically a stand and shoot reaction to charging at BS1, there's a psychic power called foreboding which gives overwatch at full BS and counter attack.

Re: 6th edition allies
It's 30% of a 2500 list....*nitpick*
Should be interesting.....
I'm getting excited and scared at the same time. What if it's beautiful, like when D&D went to 3rd ed?,,,, and what if it's like when D&D went to 4th???
I'm gonna make a bet.....
The AP3 dice are actually AP3 or worse, and effectively, the vehicle damage chart as is.
AP2 is the chart +1.
AP1 is the chart +2
or something along those lines.
The objective dice REALLY have me wondering, and it sounds like they have missions devided up into catagories a la 4th ed.

Re: 6th edition allies
Theyre saying as long as you have an hq and 2 troops, you then have to take ome troops and one hq of allies.. Then after those eequirements you can take other thngs.
No word yet on effects between forces or limits.
Each army can buy only one piece of terrain though.. aegis line for 50 ooints.as example.

I am curious as to what kind of terrain will be available for the Necrons, or if all terrain comes from a central pool in the core rule book.

Re: 6th edition allies
We'll need some local rules for League and Tournament play, depending on the implementation.
Like, "No Allies" and "No Terrain" || We'll need some play testing first though :-)
If I can buy a massive bastion to hide my surfboard lords behind on turn one... That's kinda silly.
Or a bunker for Havocs // Long Fangs

Screw that, I want a Shrine of the Aquila to hide a Devastator squad in or a objective. (What's that? You rolled a 5 for your movement? Nope, can't come up here.)

Re: 6th edition allies
i'm ok with terrain purchases, as long as they are consistent and available for all.
Unfortunatly i think this will mean purchasing GW's terrain, or abiding by dimension guidelines. Cuz you know somebody is going to model a 2ftx2ft castle with a heavy bolter hanging off the side of it.
So far, for tourneys, i'm seeing too much abuse to allow allies. Restricting based on FOC doesn't seem enough, making it one HQ and at least one TR doesn't matter if its the HQ and the TR you WANT. I'm sure your Imp guard army could use a Lash Prince with wings and a big fat unit of Plaguemarines. Or even my Chaoszilla army,.. i could sure use a Bloodthirster to back up the 2 DP's, GD and 6 Dreads that are already on the table.

Re: 6th edition allies
Itll be like buying models.. Except the model will just be terrain.. I dont see a problem with it.
As for allies etc.. The whole world is losing its shit right now over abuses combos.. But hard to pass judgement until the bool comes out.
The most important thing though is the army choices and mixes are going to be vast.

Re: 6th edition allies
If its held to 30% like the earlier post said... at 1500/2000 that's 450/600, a nice chunk of which has to buy an HQ and 1-2 troops (unsure what the minimum is), then the fun stuff you are looking for. A brother captain, and 2 5-man strike squads in Razorbacks is a kinda steep price to pay for a Psyfleman, as good as they would be.
The obvious winner here is Chaos Marines. Take 1400 of Chaos Marines then add 600 pts of GD, Lesser Daemon, and various bits to them. And we're likely 6 weeks out for the new codex anyways.
I'm going to bet that Double Tourney allies matrix is pretty much whats going to be listed. Sorry Nids.

Re: 6th edition allies
And this is what I meant by a "brilliant marketing ploy". White it might not be that uncommon for someone to run multiple armies, what if the two armies you run are unally-able (Nids + anything, or otherwise locked down in the "unholy alliance" territory)? This scenario, plus those whom are just starting up the hobby are now incentivezed to buy into a second army. Battleforce + HQ now becomes Battleforce + 2HQs + another box. Heck, if the two armies you are interested in are in the "Brothers at Arms" slot, it could end up being Battleforce x2 + HQ x2, and you alternate your primary force. Should the allies system be well received, GW is poised and ready to make a killing.

Re: 6th edition allies
anyone allying with CSM get a bonus too. given the buffs to MC's, that 130point daemon prince HQ ally seems like a no brainer.... and oh, i HAVE to take a troops choice? i guess i'll take a unit of not-good-at-all plague-marines.
