Re: Death Korps Project
Yeah the Breastplate is in metalics, and the rest of the armor is painted grey, with the odd spt of metal showing through. And I agree the highlights on the grey metal areas (Horse head) will cost me. Hopefully it'll look less garish once I get a better light set up.
Thanks for the comments man!

Ok now I get it, and I know why you did the breast plate metal. Did you end up using that wierd technique of painting over greys and white? Or did you revert to reality normal mode?

Re: Death Korps Project
Yeah, the metallics do look really bright, but I think it's just the picture/lighting. I know mine come through super bright to when a picture is taken.
I think as well the light is taking away from the highlights on the horse skin. I can't see much difference between the high and low spots..
The model is great though. I'd be a bit intimidated if a squad of those lined up across the table from me... until I realized they were guardsmen
Wow, we got two blogs going with roughriders in them..

I tried that tech out and it did NOTHING! I have a few WIP shots of using it in case I get called BS for not trying it but it does NOTHING. The dude I'm competing with agrees. Don't even try it.

I don't doubt it at all. I think we were talking about it, and I thought in order for it to work you would have to do 10-20 very thin layers. Which in the end would look chunky anyway.

Nah, I DID apply the metal in about 15 thin layers. You know what happens after 15 thin layers of metalic paint? You get succesful coverage and you can't see what's underneath. Not a succesful technique. The ONLY thing it was good for was helping visualize where the shading and highlighting should've taken place, but that's it.

Lookin good scott, I guess we'll have to see which roughriders 'ride rougher': loyalist scum, or the chosen children of the plaguefather (= pretty much whichever unit charges first )!

Oh I doubt mine will hit a tabletop until about 2012. 40k 7th ed should be out by then.

And by that time Roughriders will be stricken from the codex Use with permission from your opponent.

Your model is amazing in my eyes. 'bout time you get something done though. I have been deterred from buying krieg models because i couldn't do them justice with a paint brush. I'll just live it through you.

Greg, I think you should consider purchasing at least on DKK model. Very cool, and there is a FW order coming up! A single fig is a great way to "stretch" your painting legs. Give it a shot!

Leman Russ
I've been making a concerted effort to tie up projects I have already started. This included the Leman Russ I aribrushed way back in the day. Put a few decal marking on and hit it with the oil wash. I wish I would have thinned it out even more. The concentration I put on is 10% Burnt Umber, 10% Black and 80% Turpentine which is great for 15mm armor but I think I should have gone 5-5-90 for this size of model. Oh well. Next up is knocking the wash down a little and some weathering chips using liquid mask and some coats of the base color I think.

Re: Death Korps Project
Ill be really interested to see how your chips work out. Ive been trying a few things but dont like it.. The weathering right now looks good, but I can see what you mean by having it just a bit thinner. A couple parts pooled up a bit.

What a horrible day.
First, I find this comment ripping my hard work to shreds. Thanks a lot Robyn. The doctors told me in '98 to be careful because my soul had only one good cry left, and now I have spent it. Thanks for that. I've been walking around work sobbing about your cruel and thoughtless comment on my weathering.
Second. Patrick Swayze has given up hope and is ending his Cancer treatment. He has resigned himself to die the horrible death that Cancer promises him. He's decided NOT to fight (Like Steal Dawn or Red Dawn even) and accept his fate (Like in Dirty Dancing and Ghost). I'm heartbroken and wanted to cry, but I can't because Robyn stole that from me with his painful and spiteful comments. So, like Conan in "Conan the Barbarian" when he burns the body of his old lady, I can't cry. So, like Conan, I have to outsource my crying to some greasy mongol/mexican dude and that won't be cheap.
Thanks a lot Sytem Commander. I'm off to download "She's like the Wind" from iTunes and spend my day wishing I could cry.

Im now trying to figure out why Tim is making Steel Dawn references, now.. I dont think you ever really need a reason to make a Steel Dawn reference, but I'm just not smart to figure out Tim's.
