Played against paz today.

my first impressions is that you need an app with a flowchart and a spreadsheet of all the rolls, powers, gifts and when to use them in order to the army right. eventually i just started nodding when paz would tell me "that unit has to roll x, this unit has shrouded. that unit takes 3984383489 str 4 ap 2 hits" etc.

first game i've played in a long time where bolters made a big difference. bloodletters and horrors dont like rapid fired bolters much.

Anyone else notice how bad the new daemon book matches up against Grey Knights now? I know fluff-wise it makes sense but at least the old book had builds that could handle GK's, now that Daemon's actually need to cast psychic powers and are scared of force weapons I don't see how Daemon's can win...

Anyone tried that match-up yet?

I am very much looking forward to the Changer of Ways no longer destroying a third of my army when it shows up. Huzzah psychic defenses actually being worth a damn!

Ya, i got hillariously tabled. It's a tough match-up. If i had a blood thirster or lord of change or something... I dunno??? Heldrakes maybe?

you can swamp them, maybe.

daemons are much cheaper per model, with very similar dmg output, maybe even higher. yes, your going to resist some of the psychic powers, but not all of them....and 60 power weapon attacks from a unit of charging bloodletters is still 60 power weapon attacks... from a single unit.

Perhaps its just meant to be a rock/paper scissors thing. Daemons rocks necrons, necrons scissor GK, GK paper daemons.

Problem is assaulting daemon armies are in tough shape too, being that they'll be init 1 in the first round of combat and any multi-wound guys get force-weaponed. I guess allying in CSM Heldrakes would help as most GK armies tend to be power armour focussed these days.

I'm not down on the book btw, I really like how they re-invented the way the army works, it just really jumped out at me how bad a match-up GK is for them now.

Yeah.. It'll be interesting. Straight daemons will probably be a bad match-up, especially any with psychic powers.. but with CSM allies I can see it being a better match-up.

I definitly to want to try it out though.. I feel like a a khorne assault based army would be able to throw up alot of scary bodies for them to deal with.. but, so many str 5 and str 7 shots coming at them. Im eager to try it out. Ive only had one game with daemond using csm as a back-up.. and having the predator, raiders and heldrake filled in some big holes.. but otherwise the big daemons did all the work.

Well, now that I have a few Daemon Primary games under my belt.

Things that kick-ass:

- Grimoire
- Re-rolling Warp Storm (Take that, Typhus! Killed him on an "11")
- Pink Horrors shooting at Fliers with S6
- FMC's shooting at rear arc fliers with Flickering Fire at S5
- Soul Grinders... Baleful Torrent Only! (BS3 is teh suk)
