More Niddy Rumors

Post  Guardian Angel on Mon Dec 14, 2009 1:25 pm

Hey all,

If you have not visted yet, you should check out BellofLostSouls for their latest Nid rumours. Overall, I must say things look interesting, but I am not sure if I am sold. It looks like I am going to have to do a ton of re-work on my models to bring them into line.

From the looks of it, shooty fexes are totally gone....and considering I have about 5 shooty fexes this may cause a problem. As well, Tyrants appear to be leaning toward the melee path....again, I will have to do some re-modeling work here as well.

Still, I will reserve judgement until I see codex, but right now I am torn. I like a lot of the new stuff, but not looking forward to all the rework I will have to do.

From what I've heard, Tyranids are going to crush an army that isn't mounted up in vehicles, simply because of the sheer weight of critters they have.

I like the reasoning behind it,
The Imperial Guard and Space Marines didn't get all new shiny vehicle kits for nothing, you stubborn twats!

After looking at some confirmed codex specs for Tyranids, I'm glad I dumped some additional cash into my bugs, making 'em bigger for January.

As others have said, Tyranids "are going to be the non-suck version of Chaos Daemons".

1. Their shooting sucks
2. Their deployment sucks
3. They're slow

New tyranids won't have these problems.

Not saying Daemons the worst (by far they aren't) but I'm convinced they're definitely not amongst the stronger armies of 40K.

Holycause= Are you serious? Seriously.. the worst deployment? 1. They can go anywhere on the entire FREAKING table.. and worst? That is the most powerful tool they have. 2. Shooting= they are light on shooting, but the ones that do, are pretty good. This is a cc army. Not a hybrid... a cc army. 3. Slow? Ask Robyn if they are slow. Seriously, ask. My GD of slaanesh moved 34 inches in a turn last game (hit and run 3d6, move 6, d6 fleet, 3d6 take highest charge). SOoooo you have zero experience with daemons is what you are telling me. You read the 'dex (or a bad review) and failed to even face a seasoned army?... Please.

Master of the deathwing= Daemons under their current rules came out WAAAAYYY after they wrote DH. Fluff does not come in to the equation> Grey Knights= all daemons get without number. DH Inq on the other hand= "sanctuary" and psycannons are Super Effective against daemons. I'm glad no one does this though, as you will be called powergamer-y by every daemon player you face. Daemonhunters were built to combat the very powerful daemons you could field with 4th edition CSM, not the current CSM or Daemons.

Just to bring this up... I don't think all daemons get without number when facing grey knights. The list for infestation is pretty limited, specifically "Packs, beast packs and nurglings." Basically if you play DH against Daemons, they act as if moving through difficult terrain to assault you, and their nurglings get without number, but with nasty restrictions that limit its usefulness.

Daemons are a pretty decent army with a lot of odd gimick units IMHO. Deepstriking with anything that isn't a drop pod has always scared the heck out of me, but I can see the appeal, their shooting DOES suck, but their CC makes up for it in most if not all cases.

Hell, much as I hate to admit it, the more I play the game, the more I realize that the only army that sucks is necrons. =.=;

Edit: And I only say they suck in context of phase out. Remove that and necrons jump a bunch in effectiveness.

OK, I'll face some Daemons with my 5th edition Tyranid army and we'll see how that goes out.

As interesting as this topic is I think we should digress from the off-topic, so...

TYRANIDS GET (at least) 2 STRENGTH 10 WEAPONS, REJOICE!!

I'd have to say Daemons have the best deployment in the game.. going more or less anywhere on the table is pretty darn powerful. Now, you get a Master of the Fleet in there and yeah, your in trouble.. but as Paz said, thats their most powerful ability.

Shooting for sure is sub par, but they are an assault army. If you went with a shooty daemon army though.. youch..

I think most people get put off playing daemons because they're so unpredictable. Have you played against Daemons before?

Paz's example he brought up was insane. I was writing up a summary and got timed out.. but Ill mention it briefly. Top of turn 5.. Im on 2 objectives.. easily about 36-40 inches apart on the table.. Paz has a greater daemon left.. thats it.. with 1 wound left. He assaults berserkers on one objective and kills 4 of the 5, I fail to wound back with my powerfist. My bottom, I assault in with 2 oblits and he kills the berserker.. the Oblits wiff.. he does a hit and run and rolls 16 on 3d6. He moves straight towards the other objectve. On his turn.. he moves 6, fleets another 6, and then launches a 6" assault against the 6 lesser daemons on the other objective. He kills them all, and the game ends. In one turn, I went from winning handily, to a draw.. !! Now, Im definitely not saying its because daemons are great.. but its an example of the crazy stuff they can pull off.. I was still in shock until the next day.. I had a landraider left, two rhinos, oblits, 5 berserkers and 6 daemons left before that turn started.. he had a daemon with one wound.. *sigh*

Ill be holding that one in my bitter belt for a long time Paz... Smile

cam- riled up is how I roll

chris- u know it.

Holycause= well gosh, I should just give up right now, Tactics be damned! Because, you know, seeing the brief outline online proves nids are now a Win buton right? =*Heavy sarcasm*

Robyn= I'm still shocked! But as you said, daemons are never beat, till ALL the models are dead, or the game is over. Unpredictability.

You missed my point and then failed to mock me, so I don't really understand your goal.

I didn't say I'd win nor do I expect to, I'd just like to face some Daemons with an army that will stand a chance against them. My Necrons fall over at the sign of a wet sock so it doesn't matter how badly I suck when my army is severely handicapped.

i come to look at niddy rumors and all i get is demon qq...
so how about that 4 bone sword hive tyrant which is supposedly more dangerous in CC then abaddon?
and the tyranofex with the rumored assault 20 str 5 ap-?

edit:
ok restating that. demons seems like an army with either a love/hate about them. they are vastly different from almost every army in regards to deployment and the fact they all have inv saves. its an army that leaves a lot to chance so it takes more work to get the army to preform well in some games and in others it plays itself when you get everything turn 2.

No worries, I was just having a little bit of a hissy fit. I see a lot of people who form opinions of daemons before playing them, or whine about how un-fluffy they are, and as a dedicated daemon player, I think my army gets a bad rap for no reason. Plus, stressful holidays and late night posting= pascal is in a bad mood.

I am psyched for 'Nids. I wont be collecting, but they seem so much more... bug-like now.

How are they not a fluff based army? Isn't there is an entire (for lack of a better term) cult worshiping them (CSM) and an entire (forgive me if i'm wrong on terms) chapter of marines (DH) that is specifically trained to resist and fight demonic incursion?

They are unfluffy because the codex was written without the Daemon hunters codex in mind. All the crazy stuff that they have to fight daemons is completely useless.

The closer and closer we get to the release of this codex the more and more excited I am.

~300 point 6 wound T6 2+ regenerating monstrous creature that fires off a S10 AP4 48" template? Yes please. If this guy gets cover he's going to be a total pain to get rid of. At least, go ahead and fire your big guns; you ain't killin' anything else more killy.

Two S10 AP1 Lance weapons from T4/W3/3++, all from a drop pod, all for around 170 points? Yes please.

Death Leaper? Yes please.

Mawlocs? Oh I'll take two!

Potentially infinite amounts of Gaunts with FNP and re-rolls to wound? TYVM (potentially gimmicky, but immediately hilarious)

Yes, that is hilarious... Shooting up gaunts with average troop weapons and have them get FNP saves would leave this commander rather crestfallen.

It would sound something like, "*cries* I can't even kill the Gaunts"
