Octo-con
From the Calgary messages boards..
So we have a date, October 17th, we have a venue, the Radisson again.
And we haven't decided on the points values yet but were thinking of minimum 2,000 maybe upto 2,250 for Warhammer again and 40K most likely 2,000 points. I am having problems getting the info to and from GW now that it's all through the US, I want to get the Tournament kit and would like it advertised although I think we're to late for that, so I'll update soon.
Robert
I'll be heading out for Octo-con this year. This will be my fourth time down at Robert's event, and it's always alot of fun. On top of that, the armies are always impressive and the competition is tough. I highly recommend the trip to Calgary for this one. I'll post more details as they come up, but I'm assuming you'll be looking at about $30'ish for entry.

If I get working on some vanilla marines I might try this as well. Rob is a super good dude and runs a great event. I'll always support anything he's doing.

Re: Octo-con
I'm currently putting together a 2000 point Marine army which I could have fully painted by October 17. If anyone is interested in doing any testing for Octo-Con let me know and I'd love to have a game. If you challenge me, we could even call it a league game!

Re: Octo-con
I'd really like to go to this, but I don't think I'll be painted by then, so I have a question for anybody who's actually been to something like this before:
How much of an issue is fielding a painted army vs basic primer or base models?

Re: Octo-con
Well, Ive never seen an unpainted army at Octo-con. So, first and foremost the sheer embarassment.. I'll have to post up the rules here, there might even be a requirement that you have a painted force. However, now that the Grey Knight program is on hold, there isn't really any reason to adhere strictly to their rules, so Robert could potentially lift it. Ill get the rules posted here shortly.
It is a fairly high cost through this year, $70.

2,000 points for 40K using all published codex's, eratta's and FAQ's.
2,200 points for Warhammer using all published materials.
Registration includes lunch and there will be prizes for Best Overall,
Sportsman, Appearance and General.
starts at 8:30 am till 7:00 pm
I have put up the registration form in the files section. Some will be at the Sentry Box where you can pay as well and other stores.
Robert
As it appears, he won't be enforcing painting this time around, but if you don't have a painted army, your autmatically out of the running for overall. At the same time, it take sa bit away from the experience for everyone inbvolved, so I would highly recommend to get those fire warriors painted up ASAP, and you can be ready at a moments notice to enter tournies.

Holy Fshizit,
You drop off the face of the earth for a few months and the next thing you know the P.A. guys are winning at their own tournament (kidding kidding... no seriously Ben stop typing (again I joke yuk yuk).
Anyhow, I would love to head out to Calgary again as it was a blast last year, but its pretty close to my wife's due date so I would be risking divorce followed by punishing child maintenance payments.
As an aside, what are the rules going to look like next league?
Cheers all

Re: Octo-con
I think we'll be running with the same rules from this time around.
Ill have a list of strategic scenarios though to accompany the recon ones. I think we've been able to work the bugs out of this system for now, depending what happens in the finals here.
Nice to see you on the board again.. you and Cam both posted within a few days. great news!

Re: Octo-con
Yeah, well it's $60 if you pre pay, but still. Gas, hotel room, eating moneys, etc. It'll add up quick thats for sure.
I'm still not sure what I'm doing about it. Usually we turn it into a family trip as well and stay at my wife's Aunt's house for a few days as well, but Im not sure if that's working out or not.
Still to be decided for me.

Hey guys!
Just letting you know that me and my dad will likely be attending calgary that weekend. Hope to see somebody there. Robyn, if you show up, maybe you can continue your streak of playing one of us, and in a different province even!

Ooo, a different province. I wont be going out, as much fun as it would be. THere are reasons, but none that are even remotely gaming related..
Good luck though!
