Custom flier stands? Empty Custom flier stands?

I know I have seen a few custom flier stands every now and again, generally with a length of clear acrylic rod and a large ball bearing for magnetization. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice as to how to bring it all together. I was planning on making a return to building and painting this summer, including kit bashing some Helblades together.
