Big GW News
So.. some big news floating around all day, GW has re-opened their specialist division. Theyll be focusing on Bloodbowl, Necromunda, Gothic, Epic , and Lotr.
This is pretty awesome.. and pretty lame at the same time. Some of the specialist games have massive followings and commu.ity support.. mainly Bloodbowl. The others just sort of died out. Mainly.. other companies hae been filling the void from when GW first shut specialist games down. I just saw a site the other day that offered full bloodbowl teams.. all new sculpts, fantastic minis.. for every single team. Plus new sculpts for every star player .. but small.name chamges to skirt the ip infringement.
Anyway.. curious what this.will bring. The community at large hasdone an amazing job supporting the forgotten games.. i think GW was tired of people continuing to play their games when they werent selling them.
Cool news either way. The speciist games didnt make money according.to GW.. so this would mean theyre making the decision from a consumer point of view.. ? New Bloodbowl box set comi g soon.. im sure theyll find a way to make a few bucks off it.

Re: Big GW News
This is huge news for me, I always loved BFG but couldn't quite find another game to fill that void.
I think this is part of a grander scheme. Think of some of these specialist games as loss leaders. Start people on more basic board games, and then get them into the harder stuff, Like Age of Sigmar, being a simpler, model based tabletop game and then onto 40k.
I choose to have an outlook of cautious optimism on the direction GW has been taking of late, and this helps that

never made sense for them to be releasing a Bloodbowl 2 video game that uses the boardgame rules when they didn't actually have a boardgame. watch out for the bloodbowl IP armies to change to new Age of sigmar crap.
The endless cycle continues.

That boardgame hasnt reprinted in .. oh.. years and years. Even when the first bloodbowl game came out they had no.boardgame for.it.
Like Gothic, Mordheim, even Epic i think the games had living rulebooks. So.you can download the rulebook for fre.. then buy the gw miniatures. However.. so many minis didnt have figures .. all the third party dudes started printing them. Look at these guys for example.. http://www.comixininos.com/ they have a full bloodbiwl Chaos Dwarf team.. and gorgeous. One of the most popular teams.. and they could never be bothered to.sculpt anything for them.
Anyway.. we'll see what happens. Just a few weeks ago one of the guys introduced to us to a game that is just a very improved version of mordheim played in a post apoc wasteland. Its fantastic.. but not GW.

Re: Big GW News
with halo fleet battles, and dropfleet commander about to hit (and the surprise success of xwing) I cant imagine gw not salivating at the idea of cashing in on that space battles success.
Especially since Andy Chambers is designing the rules for Dropfleet.
God, watching all the sick spaceship battles in Legacy of the Void makes me hungry for a fleet battles space game. Bring back Battlefleet gothic!

I understand that there is a BFG game about to come out for PC running in the Unreal 3 engine.

Re: Big GW News
Bloodbowl 2 looked interesting and i've kept an eye on it in twitch. It seems to have fallen off a bit in recent weeks. I believe that the whole 7 dollars a team is getting to people. It would be interesting to see how bloodbowl would do again in the boardgame format but it isn't just a 150$ box set and your done they have to support it with a full range of perferably plastic figures for the entire line. That's way in the deep end though so will be interesting. Good to see X-Wing, and other niche games forcing GW to look at bringing back some of their classics.

My 2 cents:
Weather specialist games is alive or not, matters nothing to me.
As for games, the only one that peaks my interest is BFG. Blood bowl, manowar (if that one comes back), Space hulk, heresy etc are all meh to me.
I think in the distant future, once BFG comes out and has settled, it would be neat to run a 40K tournament or something with the first game being a space battle (if everyone has a BFG army - that matches their 40k army) and then "planet falling"... I dunno, sounds neat.

I agree! I started bfg about a month before it got canned, and still have a couple cruisers waiting to be assembled. I love the idea of a narrative style tournament mixing the two together

Re: Big GW News
the entire badab war campaign is actually centered around that; theres missions for both 40k, and bfg, and zone mortalis with the odd planet strike type mission.the bushels wrote:Matthew G wrote:My 2 cents:
