Hey guys, i dont know about anyone else, but i need deadlines. For our last small apocalypse game i decided the night before to make a plague tower. I really like the pressure and excitement of giving myself tight deadlines, but that one turned out to be a little unreasonable. I had good intentions, and put together the basics, but by 4 in the morning i knew it was not getting done, even if i pulled an allnighter. A few hours later i took what i had finished to the game, in this case it was actually a fully legal representation of the model, just with NO finishing at all. The system commander and myself went on to utterly obliterate the combined tyranid forces of Darren and Ryan, in no small part due to the awesomness of the puss cannon (aka rotten pus-y cannon). Despite our awesome victory i couldnt help but feel a little ashamed of fielding such an unfinished model. Especially one that had such an impact on the game.

Since then i have looked every day at my plague tower sitting sad and unfinished on the shelf near my workspace. Its not so much that i want to look at it every day, but its so damn big i cant help but notice it sitting there like a shameful reminder of a failed deadline. Because of this i have decided that this upcoming apoc game will be my opportunity for redemption!

I called this post a challenge because i would like to see all those other people with apoc units do the same and try to get them built, painted, and ready to rumble come Nov 16. I know there are a ton of baneblades out there that need finishing, i think an eldar titan, and then there are tons of apoc warmachines that can be scratch built.
I am going to post up progress shots of the tower as i work on completing it for the apocalypse game in 12 days, and i would love to see some others do the same.
Robert, Robyn, i believe you guys have baneblades that are not complete... Joe, is your titan done? Pascal, have you scupted up an angron yet? Come on you slackers, lets make this apoc game the shizzle.

Without further ranting, here are the pictures of the build to date. I had a bunch more progress pictures that i was going to use to make a tutorial, but i lost them between the time of the last apoc game and now.

Appocalypse Challenge: Plague Tower of Doom Empty update

Post  Administratum Sat Nov 08, 2008 6:58 pm

Little bit of an update. I dont know about anyone else, the the term destroyer hive seems to pop up allot with the death guard. I decided to try and incorporate the idea of a hive with the plague tower. I had some honeycomb mesh kicking around, so i used it and some modeling putty to make a beehive sort of effect. I then cut a crack in the side of the tower where the hive could be through the distended hull. It is still in the very early stages, right now it looks weird, but i plan to build up the outside area with some type of putty to smooth our the rough edges of the crack, and make the area look like it is bloated and splitting.

The second picture is of the pusstank for the vehicles plague weapons. I thought it was a nice way to build out the back. I painted it up first because i did not want to have to paint it once it was installed. It can still be taken out as is. I am thinking that i will build a wooden platform around it, and have a bottom valve with hoses going to the side tanks. The pus was done by wet mixing several different colors and then putting a layer of resin over top that was tinted with green paint. This was a total experiment, and fairly happy with how it turned out. The only thing im not sure i like is the ooze dripping down the side... oh and the fact that it as been 16 hours and is not dry, which is a little worrying.

Looking good, nice wet effects on the puss vat. Hope to see it for reals soon.
