apoc expansion formations; anyone read any of them?
got the 3 books released so far, damnos, damocles, and pandorax on pdf, and im reading through damnos right now to see if any interesting formations were created, since there's talk that you can use any of the formations in your army in 7th. i like the fluffy deathwatch one, Deathwatch Strike Team.
you take:
1 watch captain (a space marine captain)
2+ deathwatch kill teams (sternguard or vanguard squads in any combination)
the sternguard squads get a 5th special ammo type, called Antiphasic Ammo. it was designed to prevent necrons from doing we'll be back/phase out in the battle for Damnos. its a 24"R; S4; AP4; Rapid Fire, Antiphasic type of ammo. Antiphasic states if you shoot at any necrons with this ammo type, keep track of how many unsaved wounds you cause with this ammo type. successful reanimation protocol and ever-living rolls made against those wounds must be re-rolled.
their 2nd of 3 formation perks is that when your rolling for your warlord traits, the deathwatch player chooses to have Preferred Enemy vs one of the following codexs; Eldar, Dark Eldar, Necrons, Orks, Tau, or Tyranids.
the 3rd formation perk is every time an enemy warlord from one of the xenos codexs mentioned in perk 2's list is killed by a model in this formation, you immediately gain an extra strategic victory point. that's only going to apply in apoc games since that's where they use strategic victory points.
the land raider formation is also in this book; 3-5 land raiders is the formation. in the main apoc book, vehicle formations got certain perks/bonuses for being deployed in a certain pattern on the board. the land raider formation, so long as its deployed in an arrowhead, gets to benefit from ALL of the perks of every pattern all at once, meaning they'll have Tank Hunters, Preferred Enemy, and can add an extra 12" to their move distance when moving Flat Out. that's kinda cool, but no that awe inspiring to make me want to field it. though all of those rules tossed onto 5 terminus ultra land raiders would be nasty.
the vindicator one is in damnos, and they got a bit of a buff. if theyre all within range, they can fire a single shot with the following profile: 24" range; S10; AP2; Ordnance 1, 15" Blast, Demolition. demolition makes it that if the center hole in the 15" template lands on a building, you dont have to roll to pen, it auto pens the building. you just immediately rolls on the building damage chart, and add +1 to the result for every vindicator in the formation that fired, pluse whatever other bonuses you'd normally get for firing an AP2 weapon at a building.

Re: apoc expansion formations; anyone read any of them?
....and the damocles book gives what everyone asks for. who play space marines, anyway. rhinos with the assault vehicle rule!
the formation is called Armoured Vanguard Squadron.
you take 3-5 rhinos and/or razorbacks in any combination.
if you deploy/move them in an arrowhead formation, they gain the assault vehicle rule, and Tank Hunters.
these are NOT treated as dedicated transports, and can carry any eligible space marine unit that can fit inside them.
that's a formation i can see SW and BA enjoying.
