What do you guys think?

Its over points, yeah. Just trying to figure out what to change/drop to bring it to 1k and still be fun.
Was thinking I could drop the dev's and take a pred destructor with 2 HB sponsons and that would free up 30pts, but Im not too fond of armor much anymore, so I dunno...

Can you shoe-horn in another pod so you can drop 2 on turn one?

I like the 4-missile dev squad, I think they should make a come-back with all the T4 3+ W1+ models out there (Crisis Suits come to mind)

I only own 2 pods unfortunately. Maybe if I borrowed one of Jesse's I could take a third easy by changing an assault squad to pod instead of jump packs.

drop deathwind launchers and drop TH for a PF or an axe and you could get a pod for that Dev squad. probably just drop it empty.

Not sure about combi plas/heavy flamer unit. i'de go with combi-meltas if anything. lets you Melt a vehicle the turn you drop, and then you have the heavy flamers for the next turn..Although...most guys that can be hurt by those HF's are going to get the hell out of dodge the turn after you drop. and then if you want to fire the HF move. ... unit just seems tactically challenged. Regular flamers instead of heavies seem better for marines on foot, at least you can disembark and bbq some Guardsmen. would also save you some points.

--in general - heavy flamers only really worth it on relentless platforms.

Heavy flamers are assault weapons ;-)
That's why I love them in the stern squads.... Especially 2... BBQ goodness
If they were actually heavies I would agree.
Yeah. The combo melts is probably the better idea

Trust me, before I came to that realization some time ago I was like WHY, then it hit me upside the cabbage.

Plus if the army is trying to hide in cover I can move out of the pod, double flame and fire the ignore cover ammo from the bolt guns of the others in the squad. nothing can hide.
Sure, if I target armor its only 3 Meltas and 2 dead shots, but its more a jack of all trades unit, able to deal with everything.
Oh, and the deathwind launcher on the pod is nothing to scoff at either... yeah, its 20pts, but it can be a real bugger against hordes - or myself as I tend to roll bad most days.... Razz

Well it's either stern guard or I take van guard... Vanguard assault harder but lack any ranged weapons.

Vanguard are blah IMO. Without deepstrike off assault they are really expensive guys that die like regular marines. Even with getting cheaper I don't think there were any upgrades I thought would be worth it.

Sternguard on the other hand are double plus good.

Lol. I'm just bitter since I thought when Black Templars were getting rolled in I'd get access to those sweet vanguard vets. But when I did they no longer have the one thing going for them. Especially without a way to become scoring like sternguard.

Yea, I believe it is just Pedro's detachment now. I'd have to check the wording in the new codex.

As a side note I'm struggling writing a list with Pedro now. All of the good stuff he does only effects his detachment and even more of his rules only activate if he's the warlord as well. As a character that isn't tough at all I can see him going down and costing "Slay the Warlord" a lot. Has made me hesitant to try him. In addition because of that he doesn't play well with others. Which limits your list building potential. Especially when you compare someone like Tiggy who no matter what if you had the points to spare for him and a scout squad instantly become auto-includes with any SM battle brothers.

so your primary force and if you ally in another detachment of crimson fists they count too.
so if your cheeky you could have 8 squads of scoring sternguard in 2k+ games.

I thought you could only ally in codex SM with itself if you had different chapter tactics?

Vanguard are scoring for my fire hawks, and I have still not found a way to get much use out of them, other than loading up on stormshields and using them as a bullet magnet (nobody wants sternguard assaulting your scoring troops).
