shooting passengers
Before I ask this question , I just wanted to say I am not a rules Nazi , I just like them to be as clear as possible before a game starts .
That being said .. while I was looking up a rule for the ammo dump question I noticed I could not find a rule that directly says you can not shoot passengers in a transport ( please point it out to me if yoy find it). The only thing I could find is that you have to draw LOS to a unit to shoot at it witch you can't.
But nova powers ignore LOS .

I did , I could not find anything , but that does not mean it is not there.
It seems to weird if it is the case

Re: shooting passengers
There's something in there that creates an exclusion for Witchfires and Shooting... I'll edit in the line.
---
Q: Can Psykers use a Transport’s Fire Point(s) to manifest powers that require line of sight whilst still embarked? (p78)
A: No. Note, however, that witchfire powers specifically allow you to do so and are the one exception to this rule.
--
Edit: Oh I see, you wanted to go outside of the transport to hit dudes (with a nova) that are in the transport. No go, they aren't actually on the board. (which is why an embarked farseer can't be turned into a herald via the Daemon table)

BRB FAQ
Q: Can an embarked unit ever be the target of enemy
shooting? (p67)
A: No. Only the transport vehicle can be hit.

So if they are not on the board does that.mean things like shadows of the warp does not affect them?

Re: shooting passengers
well. heres what i find in the BRB. you need to actually be able to SEE something to shoot at it.
so. you need a target for anything, nova's choose all available targets in range... and from the most unlikely place we come up with something that makes sense
BRB wrote:Chose a Target. The Unit can shoot at one enemy unit that it can see.
brb wrote:A nova power automatically targets and hits all enemy units
within the psychic power's maximum range, regardless of line
of sight, being locked in combat, intenrening models/terrain
and so on.

Chariots are shot at in exactly the same way as other vehicles

the rider cannot be targeted separately from his Chariot.
Shooting attacks must always be resolved against the Chariot.

looks that way to me Gul.
I imagine a FAQ is necessary to battle this. as i doubt that GW intended for rhinos to Filter the Warp for librarians.

But that'd mean I taped up all that tinfoil for nothing!

Also teleport homers /locator beacons would not work while in a rhino , if you follow the not on the table logic
and banners would have no effect while in a rhino and would not effect units in a rhino

Re: shooting passengers
Some things do function while on a transport though.. its a bit confusing.
Techmarines for example can repair the vehicle their embarked on. There are definitely more examples than that out there.
Most of them say though they finction while on a vehicle. Im trying to recall one that doesnt say specifically.

Re: shooting passengers
There is a FAQ that says that wargear that effects a radius measures from the hull. Things like KFF.

Also things like an ethereals aura is measured from the hull.
Actually isn't the FAQ specifically against the power field for DA?

Re: shooting passengers
The whole off the board thing i think is silly , it is on the board in a transport , we just don't have to try to cram our models in a transport.
all the rules i have seen seem to point at not being able to draw LOS to a unit in a transport , not that it is off the board.
if you do use the los premis it realy works out well..........
until you look at beam weapons and what a headache that would be
so i am willing to conceed the point .
so it seems to me the way you are telling me it works is this.
1. you can not draw LOS to a unit embarked in a transport.
2. any auras / effects the unit in the transport has are measured from the hull. ( unless otherwise noted) for this they are on the table
3 any outside effects can not effect the unit in the transport. ( unless other wise noted) for this they are off the table ,safe in a magical warp void
