Tyrannic War Veterans Dataslate

bought this today.  had they kept these in 5th, i might've painted my army blue as i liked the concept behind them.

first of all, its a 23 page dataslate.  honestly, lets call it what it is; its a Ultramarines Supplement. a supplement 2.0.  the first 14 pages are fluff about how they came to be, past battles, etc etc.

the first entry is the veterans squad:

• elite choice
  
• 92pts base
  
• 3 veterans + 1 sergeant.
  
• normal stats, but attack 2, Ld 9 for everyone.
  

Wargear:

• Power armour
  
• Bolt Pistol
  
• Bolter
  
• Frag & Krak Grenades
  
• Hellfire Rounds (bolter only)
  

Special Rules:

• ATSKNF
  
• Avenge The Fallen 1st; squad gains Zealot if the enemy army includes one or more tyranid models.  Zealot gives Fearless and Hatred.
  
• Chapter Tactics Ultramarines
  
• Combat Squads
  
• Preferred Enemy Tyranids
  

Options:

• include up to 6 more models @ 23/model
  
• sergeant can take melta bombs @ 5pts
  
• can take drop pods and land raiders of any type as dedicated transports

there's a datasheet for the Saint Tylus Battleforce
contains a Cassius, 1+ veteran squads, 0-6 Stormtalons.  in the formation, veterans arent allowed to take transports.
here's where the formation gets interesting; 
special rule, Aerial Superiority - the stormtalons have the infiltrate rule, and can start deployed on the table instead of in reserves.  doing so, they begin the 1st turn in hover mode.
special rule, Pummeled By Fire - if any of the stormtalons shoots an enemy unit, then for the rest of that turn, any veterans that shoot at the same unit gain Ignores Cover.

Start with up to 6 fliers on the board as close as 12-18" away from the enemy? JANK.

And them hit them with a bunch of bolter shots that wound on 2+, are AP 5 , and Ingnore cover. Totally legit.

9 dudes, 18 shots, 12 hits, 10 wounds, 2+ save leaves, 1.666666 wounds, 3+ save leaves 3.3333. plus whatever the Talons took off. 2 Squads, Cassius and a talon, are what, 684?

Alright guys, nobody would run this cheesed out. B/c if they did, their opponent would just pack up. 
And this cheese relies entirely on getting first turn. This would get ripped apart going second.

exactly.  besides, the dataslate is geared mostly towards tyranids, which too many people are whining arent good anymore.

cassius +2 full units, +a bare talon is 700pts, beau.

I was saying 9 man units, but point is the same.
1/2 to 1/3 of your points. I'd rather play q single TWV squad, but you're better off running those as sternguard unless facing Nids.
You'd be looking at over 1000 for 4 ravens, 1 full squad, and Casssius.

Nope. I posted the full entry. That's all you get. They're poor mans sternguard that let you spam land raiders and drop pods.

also, i think you goofed there beau; you mentioned over 1000pts and stormravens?  the formation uses talons, which, loaded with skyhammers on all 4 would only come out to 860pts following that list idea.  i dont know anyone here that would want to build/own that many storm talons though, apart from myself since i like converting them.  but i only have 2.  myself, i'm interested in fielding the veterans on their own in the elites slot and taking some land raider transports for them.  maybe do a conversion of a proteus for them or something.

but i'll be taking my time and planning their design using anvil industry bitz.  $45 for 4 models that have the majority of their "unique" designs being so simple i could freehand paint them myself is pretty sad.
