DIGITAL DICE?

Ive Looked for various dice apps for the times when you need to roll a bagillion at once but they all seem to lack in one area or another but if i found one i liked id use it. Thus leading to the question is this OK? I'm not super sure how I feel about it or in what scenarios it'd be appropriate and I agree that your opponent has to be OK with it and if not then I will be content with using good ol fashioned dice.

I'm only kinda sorta against it, only from a logistics point of view, I like seeing the actual dice.

I find digital dice are great for small numbers, like figuring out damage in DnD or such. However, 40k has numerous stumbling blocks for digital dice: twin-linked weapons, preferred enemy, large volumes of rolling, and combinations there-of all spring to mind. 100 dice that hit on 4+ but reroll 1's would likely grind down digital systems more so than just dumping that bucket of dice in the first place.

i know i started it, and I'm sort of on the fence as well.

at least with dice, its fairly difficult to game the system, I can't see a tourny organizer allowing a digital dice system unless it was supplied by the organizer.
Digital systems are notorious for being messed with, for every legit system/website/ app out there, there are 99 Russians looking for ways to hack it and then share the hack with the world.

and i doubt that the digital dice are actually faster, programming the system for the rolls you need probably takes more time than counting dice.

on the other hand, i bring my phone with me everywhere and if i can reduce my weight allowance by two dice cubes i'm all for that. My life is starting to feel more and more like skyrim,

.. so yeah. any time i can reduce the number of things i can forget or lose, i'm all over it.

I've got it hard enough trying to look at brightly coloured dice spilled onto a table and make sure my opponent is being honest. Put it all on a tiny little screen that only your opponent can see and blam insta-cheater. Not that I don't trust you guys, but... I don't trust you guys.

It's a dark place when you start to question the randomness.  Now, if I roll "Fortune" 90% of the time on my iPhone app, does that mean I'm lucky, or the app is broken?

there was one i found that was nice and would work for 40k, but it has a limit on the number of dice that makes it a poor choice for large units.
it lets up to 20 dice roll on an ipad, but only 5 on an iphone.

what we really need is a digital device with a statistically accurate "pool" of possible dice rolls in it that resets once the pool is emptied.

and then let Beau pull his rolls from the pool each time he plays. that way, he can be assured that the life cycle of the dice will eventually complete and he'll have to roll good or at least average... eventually.

My question is: has anyone really been that inconvenienced by physical dice? I've been playing this game for nigh on 11 years now, and have yet to give up on my d6.

If its a legit program I have no problems, but when you have to roll a single armor save it just doesn't have that same dramatic effect.
