Chaos Daemons paint scheme ideas?
Hey everyone! Sorry I've been distant and haven't been posting on here as of late, (lost job, looking for new job etc. ) anyways, I have a few ideas for my bloodletters in particular that I'd like to share, get some feedback, blah blah blah. Maybe I'll post some colored sketches about my ideas if I can't express what I want on here properly and I'll post pictures of a test model when I get to it and whatnot!
Now, on to my idea. I'm a huge fan of the way bloodletters look but am getting a little tired of the plain red color schemes I see everywhere. I want to do something different. I want to do like a skeleton sort of vibe. White bloodletters, black shading around the eyes, accentuating the rib bones and bones in general. I think that, if done correctly, it would look amazing! So, what do you guys think? Any tips on how I should execute this or whatnot? Message me on here, email me, PM me whatever. I would love to hear your input!

Sounds cool, I saw some minis done by John Blanche that sound similar.

I tried to google his name and miniatures but to no avail. If you can remember where you saw this and linked it, it would help a great deal. And yeah, I'm quite excited to experiment around and really try my first sort of conversion/ paint scheme. (:

That might be more red than you're thinking, but all it is, is Deneb Stone (no idea what color that is now of the top of my head), with a bunch of different Red Inks.
I'd tend to think a bone basecoat, red wash, bone drybrush would be quick and easy, but I'm also colorblind and a lot of this is theory to me:)

Awesome looking mini! You are correct though, definitely more red than I'm going for. But, I love the effects he got just through inks mainly! (:
I'm looking for more white, boney, skeleton looking minis that aren't skeletons. XB

Swap the red inks for gryphonne sepia for a lighter bone color, like something recently bleached. Us agrax earthshade for a richer darker color like something older that's been there for a while.
Re: Chaos Daemons paint scheme ideas?
Alright! Here are some quick sketch things I did today to kind of express what I want to do? I don't know. Next step I suppose is actually testing it out on a poor, unsuspecting model.

Your taking a box of blood letters and converting them to plague bearers? Sounds cool.
Edit: Nice sketching!

Not plague bearers, just really skeletonized bloodletters. And thank you!

Re: Chaos Daemons paint scheme ideas?
I'd think the blood letter swords could be painted to look like they were carved from bone. Same with the plague bearer swords too though, I always think "Obsidian" with those, but that's just my brain being biased :-)

Obsidian swords sound really awesome. And yeah, the bloodletter swords could be painted to look like bone but I want the shape to match. (: and the plague bearer swords look perfect.

Re: Chaos Daemons paint scheme ideas?
my suggestion:
basically, u could use a base of charadon granite and black, then build that up with highlights of adeptus battlegrey.
once you have a good base, paint on the skeleton parts with bleached bone and then white. itll be a nice and strong contrast!
hope that helps

I'm speechless! That is amazing. Paz, thank you for the sketch up! You knocked exactly what I needed out of the park. Now that I know you're an amazing artist/painter, I don't think I'll be competing in any painting competitions with you anytime soon! Haha.

Re: Chaos Daemons paint scheme ideas?
Cptn skittles- I sketched that out earlier today, about 20 minutes.
It's all practise! I use the same techniques in miniature painting and digital painting.
Come on down to one of the paint nights if ya get a chance, I can show some simple tips and tricks to achieve the same effect.
Beau- oh stop, you devil you!
Mark- sadly, ok' Khorne prince pyramid head never gets to take the field, just not that good :p

Too late! Damage has been done. Haha, nah, it's ok. I bet you have a fancy tablet though. Pretty jelly. Took a look at your blog thing though, my god. I was unaware you greenstuffed that pyramid head. Paz, reveal your secrets. Now. =P

On the topic of sketching, the butt and hands could use some work, but you have a pretty solid grip on the Bloodthirster's face and spinal detailing. Practice and and drawing from life helps smooth all that out, though. I'm really out of practice with drawing, but being able to do a face decent is a pretty big thing, all told.

Yeah, I definitely agree with you there Planes. I always knew my hands needed work. I usually tend to avoid drawing them all together. Heh.
And hey, I like that blood letter's butt! XD But thanks for the criticisms. (: I too am out of practice. Haven't drawn in like, years. D: Nor have I painted for years.. and.. it shows. This first mock up blood letter that I painted is so newb looking. Time to get back into the swing of things! =D

Incidentally, the color pallet you're looking to use would be rockin' for a Malal based army. While Khorne has Battle, Tzeench has Fate, Nurgle has Plague, and Slaanesh has Excess, good ol' Malal there has Spite, specifically the spite and strife that is perpetual between the other ruinous powers.

Nice! I always like it when color schemes match up with some fluff! (: I was completely unaware of Malal!
