60 points well spent for CSM
So, going through list-building for CSM (both with and without Daemon allies). I've finally had the epiphany that Tim (the wise and mighty) had all those months ago.
A 60 point sorcerer is a good buy.
He's 60 points. For that 60 points, dude has a force weapon, which can be used for force weaponing guys. Right in the face. To re-cap, force weapon. That's an Axe (S+1 AP2 I1), Sword (S User AP3) , or Maul (S+2 AP4). Dude's got 2 attacks on his profile, also comes with a bolt-pistol, so that's 3 attacks, 4 on the charge. Not too shabby.
Dude's got WS5 and two wounds and Leadership 10.
What else does he get for that 60 points? Well, he can take Psychic Scream. I hear that power is not too shabby. He can also roll on Pyromancy and hope for spontaneous combustion (a shooting attack that doesn't jeopardize charge range) or snag a heavy flamer. Alternatively, he can roll on Biomancy and hope for anything that isn't Hemorrhage (take Smite, if that's the case).
Dude's 60 points. That's only 10 points more than a champion with a fist, and for that you get a psychic power, an instant-death power weapon, an extra wound, and an extra weapon skill.

I'm fond of the 125 pt mastery 3 with spell familiar. More or less I use it as a buff caster and just make things a pain to kill. Spell familiar makes it harder to roll perils and makes sure you can get powers off when you need em.

I'm a big fan of this load-out as well, both rolling on Biomancy and Telepathy. 3 rolls on Biomancy is a pretty good bet to get Enhance or Enfeeble. Telepathy, Invisibility or Hallucination.
The point I'm, albeit feebly, making is that the 60pt dude goes with a squad of guys pretty darned well.

I definately like the 60 point guy. I was thinking of adding him as a biomancer in a big squad.
Never got around to using one though as allied detachments only get 1 HQ, and I've been playing guard.

Yessir. My only gripe with only one roll on Biomancy, is rolling Haemorragh (ugh... this power suks) or Lifeleech (Cool, but short ranged), and the Primaris is utter garbage (Smite, it's like lifeleech but worse).
The nice thing about Telepathy is... well... Psychic Shriek, it's short ranged too, but so good that it's worth it.

Now if only one could take 4 of them in a single HQ slot

At 45 points a pop... and rolling on Divination...
Daemons with Chaos Allies looks pretty good to me right now.
----
Lord of Change
3 Tzeentch Heralds (lvl 2 with +1S locus 95 each)
Herald on a Disc (or Chariot?) -- This guy sux, he's here for fun -- might join a screamer unit (if on a disc) -- He probably gets the portal glyph
3 units of 20 horrors
1 unit of 9 screamers
3 Burning Chariots (if they fix them)
Chaos Allies
60 point sorcerer
5xCSM with a Plasma Gun in a Rhino (115)
Heldrake 170
Forgefiend 175-200
====
To be honest, I'm really digging taking Daemons as Allies (especially if they fix my glass cannon). All the fun of daemons, without the warp storm table!
High on my purchase list is a Lord of Change (waiting for a plastic kit?), a Heldrake (kachow!), and a Daemon Prince (Mostly for Dark Apothesis rolls, but I might use one from time-to-time... Tzeetch Marked Heavy Support... Rolling on Biomancy and Change! 2 Greater Rewards and a Lesser Reward! (Or one exalted and one Greater, someone needs to have a portal glyph!)

***Even if you get a bad power, you still have the force weapon as a fallback.
If a daemon pops up and you have a medium initiative S4 AP3 or S6 AP4 instagib weapon in your squad, then I would say 60 points remains a good investment.

Ya, Power Maul is quite good for this reason. Wounding T5 on a 3+ is a good deal. If you get two wounds on a 3+ save guy, he's got a chance to fail. Although, the prince could always issue a challenge in kick your face in at his initiative 9 :-P
I think Psychic Shriek is a better investment. -- Any game where you roll Enfeeble, Enhancement, Warp Speed, or Iron Arm, you're doing pretty good though.
