EDIT: I'd be tempted to take the D3 blue horror locus on the heralds instead of +1S shooting... 'cause then I can snag a greater reward for the Lord of Change, which can get him 3+ armour, S8 AP1 18" assault 1 lance (take that fliers!), 4+ FNP, re-roll invuls, or +1 Wound and It will not Die) || Grimoire of True Names just speaks to me though. It says "Mark" for 30 points. (Pick a unit with Daemons in it. If enemy, -1 to their invul saves, if friendly, +2 to their invul saves on a 3+, -1 on a 1-2 || 2++ Oblits or Mutilators? Yes Please).

Cost comes in at ~$550. ( A full $200 cheaper than the average 1750 pt army)

More Theory Listing ---

1500 is the 2nd HQ choice only... everything else stays the same. Basically, one herald per squad (potentially stack them if I want a squad with high strength shooting.
The herald on the Chariot motors around and does stuff, he's an HQ. He likely rolls on the Tzeentch List, granting himself the 2D6 S5 AP4 shooting from his chariot. He could land the 18" S8 AP1 Lance from greater rewards though (I'd be happy with almost any roll on that chart). He also snags the Staff on the Lesser reward chart. Giving him S5 in close combat so he can charge weaker units and do chariot sweeps at S5 AP4 explosion instead of S3 lamesauce. (have to double check wording on the explosion).

Chariots... Might Deepstrike them so they can alpha strike things. At 10/10/10 Open-topped, they're a bit squishy. I want to make sure I get to enjoy that torrent flamer and/or D3 lascannon shots at least once with each.

I'd likely deploy all 60 Daemons at the start. So many Daemons.

Still only costs ~$500 to buy this army, from scratch.

The guy who makes an app/flowchart for playing daemons is going to make a fortune.

shooting phase -> roll for warpstorm -> if/then if /then if/then if /then. xyz units have xyz spells, if/then if/then if/then.

That is some nice shooting!

Word of advice, 2 games in, and I've failed more than 50% grimoire rolls.
I would use it only in conjunction with some other protective power, like invisibility or forboding, otherwise your daemon unit can be left in quite a jam with a 6+ save...

I've been mixed with it as well. I think in most games, I'll be quite happy with a Portal Glyph giving me extra daemons. Thiessen and I are working on a bead-craft portal glyph as we speak! (if it works once, it's worth the points... might even use it in a kill points mission anyway, just not on turn 1 o_O).

I used the Grimoire on Mutilators and got the 2++ save. They hosed a unit of Purifiers. (daemon hammer... I care not!)

I've used it on the Mutilators and dropped them back to a stock 5++.

I dropped my horrors to 6++ (that was a sad time for them... they all died).

I buffed my Forgefiend to a 3++, encouraging my opponent to shoot at other things.

The nice thing is, you pay 30pts and you get to pick your reward after you know the mission and your opponent. I might always take the Grimoire if my opponent is fielding Daemons. Dropping Nurgle Marked Oblits to 6++ before dropping some AP2 shooting on them might make someone a sad panda, or dropping a Heldrake to 6++ before unloading some shots on it.
