New Player

Hi, I'm Domenic. I'm new to to Warhammer 40k and am looking for a game to get me up to speed. I play Chaos Space Marines and am looking forward to playing 40k with you guys!

We have a number of pretty decent dudes kicking around here. I wouldn't mind doing a match, as I am starting to pick up Chaos myself, but I'm only in the city every so often.

Watch for the new league to start up soon. $5 entry gets you a discount at the Den and you'll definitely get some games in.

I'd argue this is the best way to get some experience and meet most of the guys. Game or two a week.

Only what comes with Dark Vengeance for Chaos so far.

The Chosen that come with Dark Vengeance aren't all that effective. I'd recommend getting a box of Chaos Marines and a Heldrake to round out that force, then play some games and go from there. Dark Vengeance comes with about 600ish points of Chaos.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll keep it in mind! What is your leagues opinion on painting of the figures? Mine are all unpainted.

speaking for myself, and perhaps some others.

Painting is part of the hobby. but its a slow process and it takes time. most of us have projects that take months and months to finish. Nobody is going to refuse to play against an unpainted army... but the league and any tournaments you play in will all have a painting bonus or score.

the league rewards an extra point per game, win or loss, for a fully painted army. most tournaments have a painting score and its potentially worth up to 40% of the overall score. Just meeting the 3 colour minimum goes pretty far.

Painting is what it is. We have guys here who can (and have) painted a full army in a week, that looks beautiful. And then we have guys like me that are slow and christmas and colorblind.

Whatever you feel comfortable with, my personal opinion is a 3 color standard can be done a lot faster than most people think, looks decent, and can be a good base of you want to go all eavy Metal.
