So does that mean that vendettas are only 125 points now? And as for the new deep strike rule, that sounds almost exactly the same as grav-chute insertion. Also, would anyone let me go halfsies (or like 20$) into their book to let me photocopy pages on Orks and IG flyers?
As for the $$$ cost of this game, I feel its not so bad compared to other toys/models.
Model cars/tanks/farm equipment go for 10-70$, and one at the detail level of a GW model costs about the same. Similar sized lego kits cost about what GW plastic boxes go for.
Comparing to Magic Cards: playing non-constructed is 10$ for drafts and 25$ for sealed. With 4.5 weeks a month, (average $17.5 a week), we have $78.75 a month or $945 a year for playing Magic the Gathering. It costs even more for playing constructed. Some decks go into the hundreds or thousands, and become obsolete very regularly. Standard changes every quarter, and totally rolls over every 2 years. I know many players who own binders and boxes filled with thousands of dollars of cards that have roughly zero value.
I use some of the same 40k models I have owned since I was a child. They are still playable on table top. Just last month I wanted to pull out my Eldar, and they worked perfectly. If I wanted to play my elf deck at a Friday Night Magic event, I would have to either play a format where the deck doesn't work, or be unable to play standard because my cards are over 2 years old.
Codices have updated every 4 years along with rule books. They cost like $60 each now, are hard-cover, and have beautiful cover art (I am a HUGE fan of Raymond Swanland). This recent New-Years Eve some guy smashed into my car, and I ended up losing a couple thousand dollars of assets. I gave that guy less flakk than GW gets for producing a pretty great game. (Although maybe I should have given that guy more shit, but I didn't cuz he seemed very honestly sorry about the whole thing)
So there's my rant.... Le sigh.... so yeah, new flyers update!

I just find that they are going the exact wrong direction at every turn.
Abandoning the tournament scene.
Abandoning battle bunkers
Complete disregard for their relationship with FLGS's
Pricing themselves out of the casual gamer's market.
White Dwarf is a joke compared to what it has been in the past.
I'm with Mathew. The company needs to fail and be reborn. or get purchased by WotC or ... something.
Although. all this bitching is really just pissing in the wind as my spending has only increased since 6th. so...

Re: New FAQ's
My spending for 40k has been pretty low in the past few years.. For the chaos book all ive picked up is a drake and a half box of marines.. And the dex. I just force myself to work with what i got, i just cant be spending the dough right now.
But... Introducing the game to new people is a chore. A buddy picked picked up the starter last oct for dark angels. When the new codex came out he got that too.. But was surprised at the price compared to say a pathfinder core rulebook. Hes only a couple games, but as he learns more about.. He realizes what he needs... A ton of cash. Its a bit tough to convince him to continue collecting when he realizes hes gonna need alot more cash and of course time to get to a level where you can play and enjoy the experience.
GW is the company we love to hate.. 40k is so much fun though
I will say though the last few white dwarves have been gorgeous, the best the magazine has ever produced. It was massive.. Overflowing with pictures.. Golden daemons, armies on parade, then stuff the regular folks are working on. Warriors of chaos lost their battle report. The hobbit stuff looks goodminiature wise but i have less desire to play than i did lotr.. And i only tried that once.
100 for a slaughterbeast.. Damn gw!

As someone who has avidly played magic I really don't think wotc or hasbro would help at all.

Re: New FAQ's
Wotc at least knows how to promote a game. They know that competitive play drives sales.
Its the same idea as "elite" level content in mmos.
the vast majority of players will never attend a pro-tour, place high in a tournament, travel anywhere other than their local store to play games, or in the case of video games, tackle that dragon. But, deep down inside most nubs want to play like the big boys do. Most players of any game aspire to one day participate in that Elite content. compete on the world stage. etc etc. and Tournaments, Compeitive, balanced rulesets, and up to date Faq's/Patches make a world of difference. Hopes, dreams, and ambitions drive sales.
Currently all GW is selling is books and overpriced plastic.

Re: New FAQ's
I have 0% problems with the models. It's 100% due to the rules and books.
Look at it this way. Death from the Skies is a rules update. Lets say I'm an Ork player. The FAQ says "Updated rules for the dakkajet can be found in DftS". SO I have to shell out $40 for 72 pages of which I actually need maybe 3. I don't care how gorgeous the pages are. If I want to play my dakkajet, I have to get that.
Can I look at a physical copy to see if it actually changed, or if it's just a cleaned up version of the the previous FAQ? Nope, direct only.
Can I just not order it? Sure, but then I might as well sell my swell Dakkajet.
So I guess I'll just go to the website and order i...... What you say, it's out of stock, barely 24 hours after release?
The only possible way this could be worse is if the Nightscythe isn't repointed. Because as far as I'm concerned they have failed on multiple levels, and this product seems like money grab. This is like a MMO game charging you for a bugfix.
GW keeps saying they make models, not games. Well they are selling a GAME, and they are pissing off the people who buy their models with how they are making said GAME.

Re: New FAQ's
I dont mind paying a premium for 40k over the other games.. It is tough to make the comparison with the vast selection and history the game has... BUT .. they really to get a handle on pricing. If the pricing came with something else besides.thehonor to play.. I could maybe see it.
A free army builder, tourniebsupport, online campaigns, active forums with dev team discussion.. Something. We get really nothing extra besides lots and lots of high res photos.
Something has to give.
I admire what wotc did with magic.. Even though i havent played since 98 or so.. But wizards sure killed the d&d nmae.. What a horrible horrible game.. Darren did take all my books back for trade on pathfinder stuff.

Re: New FAQ's
He let me trade them back in about 6 months after dnd 4th came out... But it was.still sellimg good them so he knew he could still make money off em. I didnt.get full money back by any means.. But i could of thrown em away at that point so i was hppy to.get something. I think three coreboks.covered.the pathfnder corebook.
It was such a.small blip of time compared to how we'd been playing 3.5 and pathfinder i can barely remember how.4th played out.. Except i remember disliking it alot.

Re: New FAQ's
Ever hear of NobleKnightGames.com?
Once upon a time I sold them a ton of old 2nd ed d&d books and got a pretty good deal, though they only offered me like 60 bucks for all the 4e books I have now... so... I havnt sold them yet.... yet...
So... Is pathfinder just 3.5 edition D&D? 3.5 lives on through pathfinder? We play D&D 3.5 Forgotten Realms.

Re: New FAQ's
Pathfinder, as I understand is like D&D 3.75, much like Hackmaster is AD&D 2.75 (Skills and Powers is AD&D 2.5).
To keep this semi-on topic, I think most of us were REALLY looking for 40k 5.5, and we got 40k 6.0. Some are ok with it, some have left, and some are getting frustrated with the bugfixes....
WAY off topic... have Darren and Al ever thought of liquidating some of their stock on eBay? In the first 3 months I lived here I found more OOP/rare stuff than I'd found in years.
There is a NIB copy of 2nd Ed AD&D castles, presumably with all the diecuts. Look that puppy up on ebay.

Re: New FAQ's
Yup.. Pathfinder is a vastly improved 3.5 .. tons of things sped up fixed .. way more options for all classes, races, etc. It is to put it simply, fantastic.
Pathfinder is open source, so you can find alot of there stuff online. This site compiles pretty much .. everything.
www.d20pfsrd.com
At the very least you can see the improvements to the classes, options available etc.
I think Darrendid dabble with selling stuff on ebay a long time ago.. I havent heard him doing it for a long time but very well could be.
