did anyone get anything 40k for xmas? the father-in-law got me an Imperial Bunker and Imperial Defence Emplacement. was pretty stoked to see that. think i might do it in the red, or some kinda black ash or orange to go with the realm of battle board i've been working on.

Not directly, but I did get a 300 piece rotary bit set for the Dremel tool, and I have a tendancy to use that on minis when converting or adding magnets. I know that Jed got a big pile of Forge World under his tree, though.

Nothing under the tree, but I have permission to go to the den with a debit card tomorrow unsupervised.

She who muat be obeyed doesnt know which plastic toys to purchase for me. But I have permission to participate in the forge world order. One storm eagle for me.

Xmas post Boxing Day Splurge:
Went to the den and bought 2x Chaos Preds and 2x Chaos Rhinos, some Grey Knights for funsies and some assorted other crap.
I come home.

WIFE PERSON: Oh......., how much did you spend?
ME: About $250, it was 25% off.

Ive got a certificate .. Went yesterday and walked around in a daze. No idea at all what i wanted to get.

the thing that pisses me off more is why its $15 more canadian than american and the dollar is above par =x

If i didn't value the den as much as i do, i would just order in the US and have it all shipped through my broker in Portal ND. would only take a $150 order to cover the forwarding fees =x everything after that is savings.

Cant argue with a free place to play and all the terrain and tables provided though. I know its not Darrens fault and i just chalk it up to a pay to play fee.

And comparing the model... When you look at the Dark Eldar Razorwing Fighter, its only 2 sprues as well, but its half the cost... wtf

A huge part of the added cost is the logistical cost of doing business in Canada. Compare the cost of most anything at Walmart to the cost on Walmart.com. if your kid plays with Thomas the tank engine Youll have a coronary.

After living in the u.s. I still do a double take with how much more things cost here. But as Roland pointed out it is much better than the alternative.

Truth be told, for the most part, ordering thru the 20-30% off shops is a losing proposition living here, unless someone regularly makes a trip to say Minot and wants to pay for a US PO Box. Past that, it winds up being a wash.

I work in logistics. So I have a brokerage company in Portal north dakota that I use as a staging area. I have items that are free shipping in the US shipped to them. They consolidate and handle the border crossing. Then ship them to me via dhl ground. Which arrives next day.

Generally the savings is more than 30%.

It isnt logistics that makes things more expensive here. It gouging by every company. Just because they can and we let them do it.

Prime examples are gm and ford vehicles made in ontario. They ship them to the us and sell them for less than the dealership 5km away from the plant does.

I have a supplier named weathertech. They make kickass custom floormats. All mats are nafta as they are all made in wisconsin. So no duty involved. My MSRP on said mats is 35% higher than US sticker. Just cuz.

I forgot to mention that the wife got me a sweet airbrush startup set. Haven't had much chance to use it other than to test it out.

Oh it is very arbitary. All I'm saying is see how much it costs to mail something in the US via USPS or FedEx or UPS vs the same thing here. It costs more. the 20-30% markup we commonly see it the arbitary part. As an aside, CanadaPost isnt hemmoraging money.....

If youre gettting free shipping to ND and then simply paying for ground from there to here. The issue is nearly any shipping from the states (like BWB or Warstore or whatever) is typically shipped air to Calgary or TO, THEN we get to pay ground across the damn country. Take the damn US/Canada border stations, and get rid of them.
