~Favorite thing about 40k fluff and story~

You heard right gents, what makes you stick it out with 40k? what about the story really piques your interest? Heres a couple of mine:
-The horus heresy= Come on, that shit was whack! All those space marines fighting each other, The epic nature of the battle, and the fact that it took place 10000 years ago gives 40k this vast sweeping space opera feel.

-The races- Eldar, humans, orks, tyranids, tau, necrons, and all the other races such as kroot, q'ourl, Umbra, c'tan, old one slann, h'rud, the list goes on. So many cool designs, just love it.

-Visual sense= Picturing guard moving through old broken masonry, only to come face to face witha ravening slaaneshi 10000 year old chaos traitor marine... gives me the shivers of delight.

-The darkness= everyone is f**ked! Pretty much every race is clinging on to its own tenous grasp, and the main protagonists, the human imperium, are evil, backwards and crazy! awsome.

So what do you guys liek about 40k fluff, and is it the reason you play 40k?

What first drew me to the game was the fact that there were miniatures. I have always loved models, and the idea that you could control them and play games with them was really really cool to me when i was a kid. After that it was the races. I have to admit, when i first started i thought that the space marines were the coolest thing ever. I mean huge genetic superhumans running around in massive suits of armor. Very cool.
These days its the whole package. The fluff is so good. The Horus heresy could rival some biblical parables or creations myths. I love the darkness, and the huge variety.

One of my favorite things to do is to sit down with an idea for an army, and then just build it up using army builder. Its fun because you dont have to flip around a codex and write stuff manually. This is what im talking about with variety, i sometimes spend hours just pissing around with armies. You could not do that with any other game. This also ties into the painting and modeling. Again, the sky is the limit.

I could jump on bored with the space marine lovers but really not my interest. If i had to choose i would have to say the idea of the inquisition interests me most, especially since i hate religious fanatics with a passion. Its the fact that the imperium, ecclesiarchy and inquisition all say they fight for "freedom of mankind" when in fact they seem to be enslaving all humans to a specific way of life that will suit the whole imperium. Makes me think of a kind of religious communism...

the main thing i like about 40k is the story and i love just imagining these imense battles that you read in the codecies n stuff. like in this one story there was a whole bunch of chaos people attaking a village and four space marines held against like 200 of these chaos people its pretty darn cool.

What I like about 40k is the ability to go out there and command forces and fight battles. To gather up a force you created and pit them against impossible odds, relying on your skills and strategy.

I guess that's why I play a low model/elite army. ^^
