average pts for lists....
So I have noticed with the new rules that people are prefering to play larger games. I can understand why a 2000pt would be fun vs a 1500pt game. At the 2000pt level you get 2 force org charts allowing so much more. It seems that the new system is more fav towards larger games.
Are people now wanting to play higher pts games now vice what seemed to be the standard 1500pts lists?
I am just wondering if the larger games are taking that much more time than say a 1500pts lists?
Are tourneys going with higher pts lists as people get to know the new rules?

I've found myself drifting the other way with lists as of late, actually. I've been finding that 1000 points is not only easier for me to transport currently, but is quicker to deploy and forces you to build a tighter list.
Also, most of the 2000 point games that I've heard tell of as of late have been 1999+1 point games, as a lot of people haven't tried double FoC outside of math hammer yet.

Id say it's 50/50. Tourneys will likely stay 1500, but that is more a time factor than anything.
I found getting a bunch of guys together and playing 500 pt games a lot of fun. You can easily get in 3 games in 3 hours and the games tend to have some wacky stuff happen due to the small sizes.

I'll have to try a 500 point match some time. Might be hard to swing with my Knights, but my Crons could do it easy.

Re: average pts for lists....
its mostly 1999 games lately.
with flyers and forts, people find it hard to fit everything they want into 1500.
I get the impression that certain armies work better at certain points levels. necrons for instance, if you take more than 1500 points, you just end up adding "filler" or get tempted to take bad stuff like c'tan.
To be honest, its exactly the opposite of the OP, I've only played against one person so far who took allies, and nobody i've seen has played with double FoC. 2000 points isnt high enough points to want or need double FoC. and i think a lot of people struggle with making lists that make use of allies in a useful way, because they could just take more choices from their current codex and do the same thing or better. Especially as your forced to take an HQ and a Troops selection.

Re: average pts for lists....
I have found that if I make a list for 2000pts, I can use my SOB with IG allies and be able to achieve a whole lot with the list with being able to allow more of the cool HQ choices.
although as I look at the list, it is a ton of models to transport and I am leaning towards smaller pt values for my lists, I have not tried a 1000pt list make up yet, although it sounds like fun.
I find that I do not play enough due to work and family, work is super busy for Sept with working weekends as well. I am thinking I would like to play a few games in Oct, smaller pt values and maybe get a few people to come out so that there would be more armies to choose to face off against. I still need to get some games in to fully understand the new rules as well.
I think that the 1500pt value for tournaments would be good to stick with just due to time restriciton I think.

2000 points.... is my biggest pet peeve as a 40k player. I don't mind playing the occasional 2000 point game, but to me, asking to play 2000pts is like playing a game of checkers instead of chess.
Don't get me wrong, I like checkers.
My favorite points values are 1000, 1500, and 1750.

I agree. I like having to really think and make sacrifices to fit what I want, instead of just getting everything I want. But I don't mind bigger games once in a while either.

This is oversimplification i think. However, certain armies top out on useful "Stuff" at 1500. like i posted above, this is the case with most Necron lists I've seen. its also the case with CSM. with only so many "good" units. everything beyond that points limit is just filler.
Given that both people have the same number of points and restrictions, however, i don't see or buy your chess to checkers analogy. just because you can have a few more units doesn't mean there is any less skill involved in using those units or with building the list. Just because i CAN field 4x 20 man units of berzerkers in 2000 points doesn't make it a useful list in any way.

I put a lot of emphasis on the skill it takes to write a solid list. Writing a 2000pt list takes considerably less skill than any other point value (although, with double force-org's my opinion might change through 6th... However, I'll never buy the models to do it)

Re: average pts for lists....
I love 1500 point games for the intense scrutiny I put army lists under.. its so darn hard to make a good list at that points value and make sure you also have a list your opponent wont slap you for.
That being said, my favorite values lie betwen 1700-1800.. just so you have a bit of flexibility and breathing room for a few goodies.
Ill play a 2000 point game no problem.. but i think my personal favorite is 1750.
Youll find games do take a slight bit longer under 6th.. because its new.. sure, but with the extra shooting you have to do becasue of overwatc.. and simply becasue you can shoot on the move almost all the time now.. it will slow things up a bit.

I'm with Robyn, 1750 is a nice point value.
You get your usual then a few fun units or an extra hq you just can't take in 1500.

Almost all my games end up being 2000,
But I do think that I like smaller games a bit more (maybe 1500)

1500 for "serious" games, 2000 for funsies. I've honestly only played one game in the 1750-1850 range.
I;m honestly in favor of 1000pt games to reduce time. Also, more people can play (4x4 area rather than 6-8')

All you pansies and your 1500 or 2000 point games. Real men play 5000 points per person no apoc. games.

Coincidentally, double FoC makes the 5k no Apoc match far more viable for most armies to do.

Re: average pts for lists....
actually oddly enough most of those games were really fun because the armies actually looked like what you would think a 40k army would look like. There were quite a large amount of bodies on the field and the odd battlecannon/demolisher/deathstar didnt ruin the game because it was such a huge affair the impact was much smaller. I will admit they take a silly amount of time/space but they were really fun because most of the time single dice rolls (and dice in general) had less of an impact as well. Or it could be because i like to field my 40 odd terminators and two land raiders!

Re: average pts for lists....
well a 5000pt list would be fun to play...all my IG could almost be played then.
the last apoc game I played was in vancouver aprx 50,000pts per side, an all day affair. but it was fun seeing all the units out.
