average scatter numbers
i was bored today, and i've been using a lot of blast templates lately.
So the most common number to roll on 2d6 is 7, yes?
and the scatter dice has 2 hit! results. so .33 of your rolls will be direct hits
so given that only .66 of your rolls will ever scatter, and the average dice roll is 7, then the average scatter distance is 4.62 inches...
with a BS of 4 most marine blasts should roughly fall within .62 inches of where you want them to...
THEREFORE... i must have extremely bad luck because i never get close to those numbers, haha

I think that may be ove simplfing it.
Scatter die (1-2 =hit! 3-6 =-->)
You're rolling 3 dice so... 216 possible out comes.
72 of them are direct hits
the other 144 should be evenly distributed

3-10"
2-11"

um so yeah 7" average scatter. Sorry thinking as I type here. For a MEQ all those numbers drop by 4 so....

The math is a bit cooler than what you've got.
I just did it in my head and came up with 33% hit + 66%x0.1667 = 45% completely hit.
