storm talon rules

this is for those that dont wanna buy the new WD to see the rules.

Storm Talon Gunship 130 points

Ceramite Plating - no 2D6 rolls for melta weapons.
Aerial Assault - can move at cruising speed and still fire all weapons.
Supersonic - may make a flatout move of 36"
Hover Strike - declare in movement phase. the model will not move this turn, except to pivot. in exchange, model gets to fire with BS 5, and all weapons cause Pinning, regardless of who/what the target is.
Escort - if placed in reserve, and there's another unit in reserve, if the other unit enters the board, the talon may ALSO deploy with it without having to roll for reserves, but must enter within 6" of the other unit. you cannot escort a unit that deep strikes, or another talon.

comes with a TL Assault cannon and TL Heavy Bolters, but may upgrade the heavy bolters to TL Lascannons for 20pts, typhoon launchers for 25pts, or the new skyhammer missiles for 25pts.

looking at the rules, i'd be inclined to take a pair with the skyhammer missiles and strafe from the edge of the board, and if someone knocks out the missiles, them use its high speed and supersonic rule to close in and use the assault cannons to chew up squishier targets. this unit now offers marines a 3rd weapon of extreme-range killing potential, this time on a fast skimmer platform. the other 2 being the conversion beamer (original and heavy), and the thunderfire cannon.

Isnt the basic stat-line a Tempest? Or at least a reasonably close facsimile?

So it's 150-155pts for something to kill vehicles with, or 130 for something to kill infanty with.....

I will probably convert one (to each their own, but I *HATE* that model) but even then.... Would you rather have one of these or 2 HF/MM Speeders?

It's a neat unit and I can see it being used as a Speeder +2, but I dont think its a must-have (thats a good thing.)

yes, its a fast choice. and its only for vanilla codex marines, no one else.

picked up the WD, kid has an ork army. decent models, rules are meh.

I'm going to take the "no chaos flyer" as another omen that it is just going to appear in my Book when it comes out in october for my birthday. or at least thats the scenario i'm painting in my head. Should be finished Inferno by then anyway...

(PS: i've made the Staff of herding for those that are playing D3 and want to see the "cow level")

I haven't found the bits for the staff yet. I'm focusing on finishing it with each character class. I'm 1/2 through monk and only have the witch doctor after that.

What's the release date on these puppies? I may be able to snag a Nightscythe before the tournament.

I'd be up for a trip to Whimsyville. What difficulty rating is your staff?

The Storm Talon has some fun rules to try with Khan in the HQ spot. Sounds like I'll try that out.

np. funny you'd mention khan, cause the same issue dedicates a whole battle report showing a white scare army using the storm talon and how to paint the army using their new paint steps.
