Which event sounds most interesting to you?
Next Event possibilites
Possible ideas for the next event (late June/early July) and possibly another in January:
Escalation tourney (games @ 1000, 1500 and 2000 pts, with 500pts being added to your list each round)
Attrition tourney (start with a 1500 pt list and 500 pts of reinforcements. What dies in each round, stays dead.)
"Bad List" tourney (bring the worst list you can think of. Prizes for worst Paint job, etc.)
"Battleforce" tourney. (1500 pts. Your list MUST include all the models from your codexes battleforce. A battleforce list would be made up for Grey Knights and Sisters)
Kill Team tourney (per Battle Missions, 4x4 area (2 games per table), guesstimate 5-6 games?)
"One Codex to Rule Them All" (12 slots, only one player may take each Codex, and Blood Angels/Templars/Space Wolves/Dark Angels/Space marines count as a single Codex)
Odd Points (weird point levels, 1437 or something along those lines)

With escalation, is it 1000pts, then add 500 more points of things, then 500 more points again?
Like, your 1500 pt list completely contains your 1000 pt list?

Hit it on the head, Mark. Not totally sure how strict that would be (It's one thing to give your Overlord a surfboad, another to change him to the storm lord, for example)

While the Stormlord is a kind of Overlord, I think for the purposes of events like this the model either has a name or doesn't. I don't think He-manning it would make sense for something like this ("Fabulous secret powers reveled to me!").

I vote escalation. It's the simplest of the bunch, and can allow for some interesting games. Escalating Tyranid waves?? Yes please!

It would also let me field a "changing of the guard" for the NecTrons, as it were, as I am now doing the styles of both the old and new Tron movies for painting. I have to say, the old aesthetic has WAY more pop to it.

I didn't see the option but how aboutjust a regular tournament?
Special rules seem to bog down game play and drag the day out.
Just my thought.

Re: Next Event possibilites
to be honest I would just about do any tournament. If we want to keep it simple, just do missions lists from the main rule book at x many points.
I also think that many of us play these regular games durring the league games that a tournament with dif twists and rules is still fun to play.

Re: Next Event possibilites
it's hit and miss; yes, most of us are familiar with the 3 cardinal missions. and most hate Dawn of War deployment with a passion.
but then when you 'pay' to participate in a tournament, the organizer feels oblidged to give you something interesting and fun to play that makes his tournament 'better' than just playing a normal game at home while you're half smashed and asking the wife to order in pizzas.
in the end you have to ask yourself "do i want to pay money to play in a tournament that uses the same missions i play at home for free? Or would i rather pay money for a tournament that has neat new missions?"
there'll also always be the few guys that complain and say "ohh, i can't understand the mission, and its making my all-infantry/low point cost army take forever to move!" regardless of what missions the organizer decides to go with. And in all honesty, if you find yourself never having enough time in a time-constrained tournament setting, then either cut down the number of infantry and put in some troop carriers, or go play a different army at the tournament.
that might sound harsh on the ork players, and hey, i love seeing your models and how well they've been painted guys; especially since there's so bloody many to paint that nicely. But if you get 2 hours to play a game at 1500pts, and you cant get past a complete turn 2, then you're either stalling for time or you took too many 30-man boyz squads, and should've taken some trukks.

Re: Next Event possibilites
I'd honestly like to see a little of both. The situation with the last tourney's missions and time frame was 99% stuff I screwed up. To be honest, the easiest mission to run are simply saying Round/Table 1 is Dawn of War/Capture and Control. Tound/Table 2 is Pitched Battle/Kill Points, etc.
My intent is to do a variety of tourneys throughout the year so there is something for everyone. A straight up tourney with standard missions has a place in there, it's just a matter of when.

Re: Next Event possibilites
You know, to be honest all I really care about is getting to play a game. it is even hard for me to get a game in at home. I live in warmna, and not many people play out here...at all. and being a single parent makes it hard to get into the city. I try to make the tournaments as often as I can. I like playing all sorts of games, either the reg missions out of the obok or the tournament ones.
I really want to say though the last tournament was fun, although I found one mission a little confusing, the rest seemed to be NP. I think Jul would be a good time to have a tournament, although I think many people may be on vaca. but if one were in Jul I would be more able to help out anyone running it, as I no longer work nights and my kids will be visiting the mom figure.

Re: Next Event possibilites
I don't think it's fair to say certain builds are totally not viable. 30-man squads of boyz are useful and when they can not be used, it just becomes more Pro-Marine that is the stereotype of this game.
If the funky scenarios started to hose all kinds of armour, all the Marine players would start screaming foul while Tyranid players would be licking their chops. Supporting short time limits is a boost to GreyKnights and other min-maxed lists.
I like funky scenarios like last tourney but a few took so long to figure out who won, and used terminology like 'secure' and 'hold' which were not clearly defined except on a single sheet the judge was holding.
I like all the ideas for funky tourney styles except the attrition one. That one would blow.

I like the idea behind the attrition list, but to be fair for every game it would not be.people would have lists that were unbalanced in points and make some people cry.

Re: Next Event possibilites
Not for that reason. Lists that beat the holy hell out of an opponent in the 1st round would go on to win the entire event. A variant of it would be okay, like adding 500 points to your survivors, up to a maximum of your starting points.
Just something to add to what I said earlier. Even meched up orks can be slow if your opponent blows up the trukks fast. Or when the Orks get out and assault into cover.

Re: Next Event possibilites
My $0.02...
1) the Confusion mission: I botched it, plain and simple. It should have been one order per side. If i run it again there will be obj markers plaining saying what are "Secure" obj, etc. Also, Scott, the Tomb world mission basically did nerf PA lists, as it effectively gave all lists a 4+ cover save throughout the battle. Those 2 were the only mission I really heard any noise about, if there were others, please let me know.
2) the Secure/Hold/etc confusion (not the mission it self): Again, my botch. Should have been one of those @ every table.
3) big/little armies: I want people to bring armies they WANT to play. If it happens to be a 100+ model footy ork, so be it. All I ask is for everyone to understand that there is only so long a round can be (about 15mins for setup and 2hrs @ 1500 pts is about the limit), so fairly brisk play is mandatory. We don't need to play like Dan and Drew (45mins for a 7 round battle), but we need to be aware of how fast we are playing. The team tourney didn't meet that because the setup (picking who'd play @ each table, etc) took too long (an hour when I'd planned on 15 mins.) Again, I didn't plan that well enough.
4)Time for next tourney/help: I'm eyeballing June 23rd for the next tourney right now. Kevin, I would love some help. My work schedule is gettting to the point I'd need some people to delegate to. If anyone else would like to help, PM me.
Thanks, Beau
