Captain Trips.....

Who else has come down with this crud? I swear I've been on deaths door for about 3 weeks now, and it won't GO AWAY. Is cold/flu season in Sask always this bad? I hardly ever got the flu before we moved here, and in the last 2 years this is the 3rd time I had a bad flu.

Also love that they bring out flu shots AFTER it starts......

its just cause your not adjusting to the weather here yet. many people from more temperate climates that move here tend to have the same problem; you should look at all the poor kids on campus that are foreign students, now they get it bad. it'll just take you a while longer, maybe one more winter season. assuming your not hiding indoors with the heat cranked all the time.

Beau I don't want to sound like a jerk or hard ass. But Ya just gotta tough it out. Take a shower, warm to cold, get mad look your self in the mirror and deal with it... In the last 5 years I have taken 3 sick days. Rule one, If you act sick YOU WILL BE SICK, don't act sick. The morning and the evenings are the worst because your body naturally is slower. Rule two push your self, just one step more kinda attitude, just a little more just a little farther. Last Rule your the man of the house, lead by example.... If your sick and down, your wife and kids WILL BY SICK AND DOWN. No I'm not trying to tell ya your a wimp or act like a jerk. Just some things I've figured out along the way.

Don't listen to james. He's a workaholic. I take sick days whenever I can and when I actually am sick, I make sure the wife does everything for me, including sending her out to buy me a new video game so I can play it until I feel better. There's nothing unmanly about being sick. Sleep in, let the kids wreck stuff, but just stop caring for awhile. It's about you at this time. Remember when everyone kept telling you that it was all about your wife when she was giving birth? Well this is your time.

Greg/James: I'm pretty sure if I put those 2 ideas together, I'd create anti-matter. On a side note, Erin is showing me how much I truly suck @ Super Mario World.

Robyn: Yeah, the hard part is finding balance between helping out, and not getting everyone else sick. That said, Clara's had it (twice, and I'm pretty sure she gave it to me), and Liam just came down with it. He sounds like a 90 year old who's been smoking a carton of smokes daily since birth when he babbles. Erin seems to be immune.

It's been bearable til this weekend. Before it was just annoying, now I just want it gone.

Beau I have taken Diseases and treatment in college, And well we aren't that different from animals. From when the last person who is sick stops showing signs of symptoms each of you will have a 7 to 10 days before the next person can and will get it. Erin WILL GET IT... or she already had a very mild flu, think back about a month. Don't be surprised if there is a round two of infections.
And honestly to get over it ya just gotta push your self. Hammer down some cold dark tim's in the morning and give her shit... Good luck man.

And correct from my last post, Jen said I get sick at least once a year. The only time I stay home is when she can push me back in bed and I don't put up a fight. The strategy works. Again Good luck I know it can be tuff when your sick and ya got two young kids.

For the purposes of this post I'm a doctor, you can trust me.

James. I'm pretty sure when I ask the doctor what I should do when I had the flu, he said to me, "Take some medicine to deal with the symptoms and then get a lot of rest." I don't see how coffee and a kick in the ass fits into this "Doctor's" prescription.

As for being a pussy, I haven't taken a sick day in 10 years or so. Even then I called in drunk, not sick. I went to work with a ruptured appendix bitches! So eat my shit everyone else who probably DID go to the hospital right away after their appendix burst without first working a 12 hour shift.

Flu shot. every year. as soon as they are available. 7 years and the only sick days i take are during the summer so i can go to matinees of dumb shit like transformers i cant convince the wife to go to at a normal time.

Flu shots are mind control shots! That's how they get ya!

Update: My cold/flu had let up. So has Clara's. Liam got MUCH worse yesterday/this morning. Taking him to the doctor today.

Pretty sure this is round 2 for Me and Clara (we both had something around ToonCon). Erin got her bout with it then (very minor case).

Taking today off. Last night was epic. They took turns. Liam up crying and coughing, then Clara up and wanting to play. Lather, rinse, repeat. I think Erin and I got 2 hrs each maybe.

According to her mom (RN in Niagara Falls) Canada Health just put Saskatoon on the flu outbreak thingy. Our Doc just got flu shots in. Said they can fit us in first week of Nov. Golly gee whiz thanks.

I got a bad flu/bronchitus at the Ex (dont recall how long ago that was), It plagued me for only a week;
Then my girlfriend got sick for a month; then just as she was recovering her mom and dad got sick;
Then as they were recovering I got sick for a week again;


The flu virus really is a stubborn one; Maybe I'll consider getting vaccinated.
And I hope your situation improves.

So we thought we were thru this...

Liam (my 7 month old son) had a seizure today during my daughters preK Halloween party. Luckily my wife didn't freak out, and even luckier than one of the dad's was an EMT and one of the gramma's was a retired nurse. Seize lasted about a minute. Wife said he was burning up, flushed, etc. EMT dad and the gramma nurse called 911 and got Liam cooled down. Taken to RUH via ambulance, and admitted to pediatric ward about 7 pm.

They are 99.9% sure the seizure was caused by his fever (he spiked twice while in ER, both around 40C, with a pulse rate of over 200). Just trying to determine what caused fever, Leading candidate are pneumonia or a cold/flu virus. Either way, they say it's likely he will be admitted to the PICU tomorrow.

Erin said he perk up after his last temp spike passed and was giggling, playing and babbling on to her, so it looks like nothing lasting. Just scary as hell. More tests tomorrow so we will see what the day brings.

Scary stuff. I have a 7 month old myself. It's really frightening to hear of, and especially go through situations like this. I hope all is well soon, and best wishes to little Liam and your family.

Yeah. Erin said she pretty much froze. Ben (the EMT dad) heard her say help and basically took over from there. I need to buy that man a beer or 40.
