Badab War Campaign - June 2011 - Phase 1 of 5 Results
Figured we should log what's happened stage by stage in our 5 month long campaign so those who arent there every night can see what's going on. I'll start a topic for each phase as we get to each so its neatly organized.
For those that play a match, please post the following;
This way, those who play that arent on my blackberry contacts can easily let me know the details so i can log them into the master book. If you're one of the guys playing and you own a blackberry, pm me what your PIN is and ill add you to our 40k gaming group so we can all coordinate matches easier. failing that, regular texting and pms work too.
So for this month, we're playing matches to win the right to use the following special bonus rules for the rest of the campaign;
Each month will try to emphasize specific types of games to play by making them worth different points each month.
This month the points are as follows:
For those that play a match, please post the following;
- who played
- what kind of game was it (standard 40k, boarding action, planetstrike, cities of death, apoc, battle missions, etc)
- what was the point limit
- which side won(loyalists or secessionist, or draw)

- This month the loyalists fight for the right to gain +1 to all reserve roll results they're required to make for the rest of the campaign, as well as the "Strategic Redeployment" asset in the final Apoc game at The Palace of Thorns in October.
- This month the Secessionists fight for the right to re-roll Deep Strike scatter dice results they're required to make for the rest of the campaign, as well as the "Ambush" asset in the final Apoc game at The Palace of Thorns in October.
Each month will try to emphasize specific types of games to play by making them worth different points each month.
This month the points are as follows:
- Special Mission: The Massacre at Bellerophon's Fall = 4 CP (this will be played in the last week of June)
- Victory in a Boarding Action game (1000pt a side or more) = 3 CP
- Victory in standard 40K games (1000pt a side or more) = 2 CP
- Other Victories = 1 CP

Im assuming by the forces and report that kill points are a bit different.. kill points here are just straight models killed, and not units?

Re: Badab War Campaign - June 2011 - Phase 1 of 5 Results
I only mention it because it will put any force with cheaper models at a disadvantage.. and will possibly encourage taking more expensive units.. like a Dread. If a Dread is only coughing up 1 vs. 5 for a tac squad, might skew the choice.
Am I asking dumb questions or did I miss that in the rules?

no its a good question, its just how we agreed to do them today as its the first time we had a tie
Re: Badab War Campaign - June 2011 - Phase 1 of 5 Results
It's none of my beeswax, but wouldn't victory points be a better tiebreaker? My all-infantry Imperial Guard force does not like your method...

Victory points would be fine if you want to make sure you have a clear cut winner/loser.. you'll never have a tie in that case. But, I guess what's wrong with standard kill points from the book? Per model kill points will never work.
I realize you guys did a spur of the moment decision, but we should probably get a rule set-up for draws.. they will happen alot. And I guess the fundamental question, does it matter if it ends in a draw? Games that end in a draw tend to be some of the best games Ive ever played.

Re: Badab War Campaign - June 2011 - Phase 1 of 5 Results
this is true, and some of the games will give a certain faction points for making a draw. it was actually bear himself that suggested kill points, and then realized that shot himself in the foot when we added it up. i think a point for each unit destroyed would have been better and doesnt descriminate against troop heavy armies.
Re: Badab War Campaign - June 2011 - Phase 1 of 5 Results
I think IA:9 recommended 1 KP/model, but IC and walkers and the like are 5KP's each. But then I think they are assuming Muh-reens vs Muh-reens (which this was), and several other stuff. (The Deck level mission actually recommends smaller games, with a recommended max of 25 models/side. It also recommends a more or less Kill-team set-up that ignore coherency, etc. Basically each model fights independantly.) A Ship Vault board (think 4x4 CoD) is actually the default set-up. The Deck mission is just a lot of fun.
That said, if it were say Nids or IG or Orks vs DW or GK I think it would need to be std kill points.
Robyn: you planning on playing tomorrow?

Re: Badab War Campaign - June 2011 - Phase 1 of 5 Results
Ahh.. yeah, that makes pefect sense. Like you said, marines vs. marines isn't a big deal at all.. but it's the vehicles and such that shift it. But, 1 kp each in a small game with walkers worth 5 makes sense. For small point games that would be fine.
Nope, I can't come by tomorrow night. I have some other plans this week at 7 30. I'm hoping I can play next week though, I dont have anything going on. If things are looking a bit tight next week, I might see if someone wants to come over to my place for a game. It makes it really tough to get to the den when your getting home around 5:15, have to have supper and then make the drive across the city for the game.. especially when you want to hang out with the little guy for a bit as well. I could prob do it once a week without a problem, but I have to do the same thing Wednesday nights already so it'll be hit and miss for me.

I know EXACTLY what you mean. My wife isn't terribly happy most game nights, b'c I'm home from work for a couple of hours, and by the time I'm home the kids are in bed. Although having the campaign in my basement seems to help, as I can run up if she needs a hand. Tournament days usually don't start well tho.
The month after June 20th will be a lot better for games. My wife's going to see her folks in Ontario and taking the kids. So I can stay up late, eat bad food, paint mini's by the batch, and have friends over to discuss the key differences between the 4th and 5th ed Vehicle Damage Charts.....

The key diference here, is I spend my time reading comics books, painting toy soldiers and robots, and putting a new coat of laquer on my DM's screen:) I think I'm a bit more "Big Bang Theory" than Owen Wilson:)

You know what would be 100,000 times cooler than playing on white pieces of paper? The Space Hulk Board game, if you don't own it buy it. It's one of the greatest board games ever produced. It comes with sweet figs and all the tiles seem to be exactly what the white paper mission needs. Plus it has doors and all kinds of =I=censor=I=, it's awesome.

We're using the SH tiles for the games at my place. They work fantastic, other than the rooms are a little small, for what is described. The bigger issue is the whole set does ONE Deck Level board. *grumblegrumblegrumble* I'm looking for second set (just the tiles) on Ebay.
So far all I've found is a Smurf TV tray...

Yeah, the game is in pretty high demand on ebay.. going for decent prices for a full set.
I was considering selling mine because I dont like it.. but, I do like everything that came with it.. Ive also been hesitant to chop up the librarian for the grey knights as well for that reason..

When I bought mine, I literally got it just for the mini's. $100 for 2 squads of termies, a libby, and a captain? Sign me up. I had to get some extra termies to make them legal, but now I've got a SWEET looking BA Termie Army. Well, sweet other than the "no paint" bit.

Just an idea, but you can pick up some pretty impressive textured wallpaper these days. It's thick and will hold up to paint well. Tiling a whole board in the stuff wouldn't be good, but, buying some pieces, drybrushing them metal, and cutting down to size would make perfect spaceship tiles.
I did a quick scan and noticed you could get some metallic looking textures. Just a quick cheap suggestion if your looking for something and dont want to buy more space hulk tiles.

How did the results go last night.. are the loyalists still cleaning up? I'll have to get the Worldeaters involved here and show those loyalists what a hulk full of berserkers can do..

Playing tonight @ 7. At least 2 games, hopefully 4. That'll double the results so far, and hopefully the seccessionist can make a game of this month.

heheh, sorry to burst your bubble there.
On the bright side, you just avoided an odd conversation about why you aren't at work with your boss and/or wife.
